I think we should be thankful to Peter for the early part of his support. Sadly, the last few years have been much more difficult and his legacy is not as strong as it should have been. But without him, I very much doubt if we'd have been in the Football League for this length of time.

Hopefully he has left the club in a much stronger position financially than when he came to it and he enjoys whatever he does next.

Agree with Keith, shouldn't be forgotten that he got us into the Football League. It's just a shame he's brought down his legacy in the last few years with all the nonsense that has happened - he 'Wengered' it. Still worth remembering about the promotion etc though.

I wish him all the best and would thank him for the vision to aim towards promotion and for negotiating the sale of CP to raise funds for the new grounds. Without him, I don't think that would have happened as the club really needed his support over the early years of his tenure.

Unfortunately, the Globe has been his downfall and sadly, that's probably what he'll be remembered for. Personally, I think most of the recent problems are down to the mistakes made with the Globe and the reliance on MD for advice and managing it.

So, what now I wonder

Mr McGuigan’s exit also comes a matter of months after his praises were sung by the club’s new owners at a fans forum.

One of the owners, Colin Goldring, told those present: “If he wasn’t staying on, I don’t think we’d be here for thenext two years.

“We’re grateful for the work he has done.”

Hmmm I wonder why now.

Do we believe he has stayed during the transition to the new ownership and the time is now right to step aside as the new owners bring new people and ideas.

or is he now finding it hard to work with the new owners

or does he see trouble ahead and he has jumped ship

Without him we would probably be with the likes of Hednesford, Hayes, etc. so we should be thankful. Also I am sure the move to the globe and the ownership crisis has cost him a personal fortune as he has never got back the loans he was probably expecting to get repaid.

PMG is owed a huge thankyou for allowing us to dream of bigger things and to see players like Lewis, Twissy and Baker turn out for us. It has all gone sour and he came across very prickly at the pre season forum. He had to go but he goes with my thanks

Gave 10,000 fans an amazing day at Wembley and made the dreams come true of us older supporters!

Regular visitors to this forum will know my feelings and loyalty towards Peter so any more words of praise and thanks for delivering both EFL football and a new stadium from me would only be reiterating what I've already stated numerous times.

Peter, I'll miss our one to ones and hope that we'll see you at some time in the near future at The Globe to say a sincere thank you for your commitment and financial input into our club.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do in the future.

Cheers....Neil R :D

Great feature on Radio Lancs now, loved the introduction

"He is the man that brought League Football to Morecambe, you have to respect him for that"

I agree with this. The club owes its Football League status to PMG.

Now... Rod Taylor for chairman!

Thanks for everything Peter! Without you we would no doubt be languishing somewhere in the nether regions of non-league. The run to the FL climaxed with the amazing day at Wembley will live long in the memory. Whilst the Globe doesn't seem to be everyones' cup of tea it at least gives us a fighting chance going forward.Something that a crumbling Crusty Pie never really could.

Very mixed feelings about this. On the positive side there is no doubt that his massive initial investment into the club, which kept us fighting for promotion over several seasons, attracted players like Michael Twiss and finally got us to Wembley and promotion. After that he kept us in the Football League and attempted to secure our long-term future with the move to the Globe. We wouldn’t be where we are without him.

On the negative side, decisions like firing Jim Harvey the day he returned to work; putting your own name on the main stand; the deal with Diego Lemos; PMG Leisure; the Chinese; and several things not able to mention on here meant I could never warm to him or trust him.

When I was summoned to the club and he tried to persuade me to part with £45,000 to be a director I got the full PMG. A smooth operator, dealmaker and salesman who would say anything and do anything to get you involved. I found it a very strange experience but one that left me cold and worried about the club.

As KenH has said, he hoped his positive legacy would be the Globe but ultimately the same arrogant approach of knowing better and not engaging with his customers led to a ground that was as cold as he was. If we have any hope of improving the atmosphere, growing crowds and removing our rolling crisis management he had to go and, at long last, he has.

I never thought he was really a true fan or embedded in the community and was happy to dismiss the views of those who were.

Thanks for Twissy, Wembley and the investment to get us to the promised land.

If you have a load of cash it is easy to be a good guy in the world of football..because sporting success needs money. But MFC has always had a good and popular culture, supported by good people working hard and giving time to make MFC the best it could be.
PMG put more money into MFC than anyone in its history but ultimately (when he no longer had the cash to splash) he did more damage to the culture of our Club and the wellbeing of those involved than anyone in its history. He has disillusioned and pissed off more people (workers, sponsors and colleagues) than you would think possible.
It has been plain to everyone for years that our club cannot move forward whilst he remained involved. His own determination to squeeze personal gain from whoever came along has been a block to progress.
Thanks for the memories PMG but your departure is so long over due!

Difficult to argue with any of that. The remarkable community club that dragged itself from 192 fans against Goole on a Saturday to the upper reaches of the Conference and got local players like Perks, Thommo, Danny and others at its heart, is still there and bubbles up frequently. Whether two blokes from Essex can bring it back that pride to the heart of the club depends on who they appoint to Chair the club and to the board. Let’s hope they do the right thing.

CP PMG vs Globe Arena PMG

Did well right well up untill the move, i feel the Sainsbury's Money was JB Christies and his money has been blown on a Ground what should have been so much better and been left with better protection inside the Chrities Trust, safer away from Asset Strippers.

PMG legacy (Oh didn't he get us into the FL? Yes he did, BUT.....)

The Sainsburys money was always PMGs end game and the return on his investment for the conference years. Sadly it backfired for both him and us.

Whilst I'm grateful to PMG for getting our club into the Football League, as has been said on this thread previously, the move to The Globe Arena has been something of a disaster sadly due to varying reasons and certain people put into certain positions at the time which has sadly alienated many a fan and paying customer.

I never really had much to do with PMG. The only times really were at the Fans Forums when (in my eyes) he seemed to me to look down on everybody and always appeared not to really care what fans said at the forums and again, seemed to look down on everybody.

That was proved to me on my only other encounter with him on a sunny afternoon when he ventured onto the Berlin Wall to watch a game in progress. He walked past me at Half time and I politely said, "afternoon Peter" to which he didn't even nod his head or reply. Just briefly made eye contact and walked on. That's NOT what our club is or ever was about.

Thanks again for the FL promotion, but not The Globe Arena.

We move on.
