Agreed Rod Taylor is Mr Morecambe Football Club and is respected by all. But would he want such a massive responsibility in what are turbulent times?

Totally agree, Rod would be the logical choice of many BUT our new owners will decide, all we can do is hope that they take into consideration the view of many fans who feel Rod is the best person for the honour of being our club's Chairman.

If the new owners want to achieve credibility and respect from sponsors, supporters and staff, you are correct, there is only one choice. Rod
However, if you want someone to do the job right and commit everything to the cause without looking for any personal gain or accolade then there is only one choice. Rod
On the other hand, if you want someone who will send a signal to supporters and sponsors top rally round and grow the club back to the very best it can be then there is only one choice. Rod
One final thought is you might want someone to be accessible, responsive and open with everyone, like a good community chairman should be. In which case it should be Rod.
So many options but no clear and obvious choice! It's a tough one!

You forgot the part about how we need someone who'd be the perfect son-in-law. Someone like Rod.

It's good to see that we have so many different options and ShrimpsVoices are in complete agreement!

I think the appointment of a chairman will tell us more about the aims of the owners.

Aye, if the Owners only have a 2yr plan, knowing they read these forums and Facebook surly they will go with the Fans wishes on the appointment.

For me:
a) Rod would have to be on the owners list
b) Rod would need to want the job
c) Rod would have to have an extra 50 hours a week to do it
New owners are currently looking for new Directors, will be interesting to see if they go local or put some mates in. Distance will be a problem for mates and I don't suppose they will know too many around here.
Maybe they have had recommendations from PMG

Much as I too would love Rod to be chairman, I think Marky's probably right about querying whether Rod would want it. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see who takes the role.

I think probably a large majority of fans would want Rod to take the position, however, with him announcing that the last time he had the position he did not have the time to do the job effectively, I do not think he would take it on again.

So all those who wanted a change at the top have finally got their wish, however there is an old saying 'be careful for what you wish for'.
Judging by the overwhelming support for Rod to become Chairman, it's quite possible that our new owners may have other ideas and bring in their own man to take control of the day to day running of OUR club who to date has had no involvement with OUR club and whose loyalties are to his masters based in London rather than to the fans who are the heart of the club.
Interesting but possible worrying times ahead.....

Just to clarify things "peters"...whatever happens PMG wanted out ..first of all he found us Diego...then he found us Cala...then on the brink of oblivion he found us "Jason and Colin"...whatever happens next is not what people were wishing for ..it is what PMG decided on.

All this talk of having somebody Day to Day.
I'm not fishing for bites here, but surly a club of our size you could run it off a Mobile Phone?, and just be there on Match Day and nipping in the odd day during the week to physically sign paper work etc, aslong as you've a full time reception to take calls, what else is there to do you cant do off the other end of a Mobile Phone?
Oh and plus there's a Commercial Manager in that mix?

How silly of me to even think that your personal vendetta would have moved on now that your insistence of a change has come to fruition...
With Christmas just around the corner maybe someone will buy you a new bone....

PMG has been wanting to sell for years, so the fact he's finally leaving isn't surprising or worrying to me. If anything, after recent failed attempts to sell to the right party, the fact that he's chosen to do it now shows that he must be satisfied that Jason and Colin are the real deal. I await future developments with renewed interest and enthusiasm.

personal vendetta??....isnt that what your alterego had with the manager???...PMG has made a lot of bad decisions and nearly cost us our club ...and in answer to the question of wether Rod would want the extra work...hasnt he already been doing it unofficially anyway?

We all know what the club means to Rod and what Rod means to the fans of Morecambe but would fresh eyes and a full time club employee be better? A chief exec or an operations Manager who will push the club forward as a business. Just a thought

That's more of a managing director/general manager role. Usually the post of Chairman is a figure head rather than someone actually working day to day. Nothing to stop Rod having the figurehead role alongside someone who's a "proper" employee running the club and developing it. Best of both worlds.

What is the perfect hierarchy for a football club the size of Morecambe?

Unlikely to be taking the recommendations from someone they've just sacked, surely?
