Aspiring Everton Managers O/T?

Anyone aspiring to be manager of Everton needs to pick the strongest team from the players available, be flexible to change if plan A is not working, motivate the players to run through brick walls for you, use players in their strongest position, set up the team to play exciting football and generally get the best out of the players available.

I’m not starting the in / out debate... I personally think it’s good to have ambitions and dreams. Also when you watch that video it’s amazing what shit Jim has had to put up with and I think he’s done a great job to keep us in the league.

I thought the video was terrible and full of self pity. A chance to show the club in a good light on a massive platform turned in to a one man sob story. Just my view but I think it was a missed opportunity especially after Kevs PR wonders the week before.

I'd start with playing Walcott at rightback ;)

For those who want JB out, who would you want to replace him, given our financial constraints?

I'd like to know, following recent ownership changes, just what these financial constraints are and how they compare to this time last year.

I'm quite sure Jim doesn't work for free and i remember Rod stating that Jim was not a cheap option when appointed.

Interesting thread on Notts County forum......3 million pounds, 38 pros. They are on their 3rd manager this season. Puts a bit of perspective in relation to MFC,and JB.

This is the 64 k question that those who quote it as an excuse have not got as much as a clue about the financial status of the club as the rest of us. The only people who know are the office bearers at the club and I doubt that any of them will tell what it is on this forum. All that has been said is the disappointment of the FA cup and the loss of investment money which can be interpreted as being skint. Like a lot of things speculation should’ve avoided as a conversation with no facts to discuss is pointless and reverts to contradiction rather than argument ( as per monty python sketch ). Again potted shrimp asks who would you bring in? Again that’s a matter of meaningless opinion as the popular choice may not be the eventual outcome. It is good that Mr Bentley is the longest serving manager in the league and it speaks volumes of the attitude of the board. The only thing is for years we have been playing Russian roulette with non league football and if the board are content with that fair play, but many fans would like more ambition than that and if that is not the case let the board be honest with the support as we deserve more.

You talk about us not knowing about the budget, but we know for sure that on multiple occasions in recent seasons, the players and staff weren't paid on time. On that basis, remaining in the Football League was an amazing achievement. I don't believe that ambition beyond retaining League status was realistic. Now, if we really have some money, then I'd like to see Jim given an opportunity to spend it and recruit as he'd like. That doesn't mean that I don't find games like Tuesday & yesterday frustrating. But keeping things in perspective...

Notts County are one of the biggest clubs in L2, and go through Managers and pay out money in compensation fee's for fun, obviously got money to burn but yet are still crap.

Who's to say if Jim gets more money to signs better players it will guarantee an improvement in results?

Money isn't everything, in our case its more about attitude.

PS its just id rather any money be spent finishing building the ground off properly.

I think the main issue is the style of football Jim plays. I don't think his signings match the way he wants to play hence having lots of square pegs in round holes. Would it be different if he had a treasure chest?

I agree with Berliwallwer here, I would add that don't think most of our players are that good though and would probably struggle to compete in whatever style or system they were asked to play at this level, you can only play with the cards you are dealt.

Four very fair points there Andy D, and I ams sure there are many fans who would agree, including thousands of Notts County fans with regard point 1.
The missing piece of evidence in relation to JB in, or out, is......what would he be able to do if allowed the financial clout to bring in some new players, not beg, steal and borrow, as he has had to do much of the time. Then as fans, we would have the full picture.
I am a Jim IN, and have said it before.....” I consider this group of players he has assembled this season, as a hardworking, honest and talented Morecambe side. “ I “keep the faith.” The results are in there for these lads, and will come.

Can we not keep the Song Game thread as well, for me as well as Seasider?

Managers jobs available at Hartlepool,Cambridge Utd and probably Wrexham and Chesterfield. Not exactly Everton I know.Just saying. Last week I heard a Chesterfield fan on the radio describe their tactics under Martin Allen as "non football"
