John L Takes The Reins

I’ve been writing `match reports’ for Vital and latterly D3D4 football for longer than I care to remember. Why? Because nobody else will do it and I think it’s important to keep the profile of Morecambe FC as high as possible.

I remember writing something similar at least ten years ago.

And five years ago. And three years ago.

Last year, the editor at D3D4 Football asked for someone to write match reports about Morecambe on this very site. But – typically – nobody responded. So I offered to share the reports I was already doing for Vital football. Given that nobody else had taken-up the offer, I asked - on the pages you are reading now -for fellow fans to provide me with photos to illustrate the articles I felt obliged to share just to add a bit of variety.

Guess how many I have received?

Not one. So – just as was the case when I first started doing this and Know-It-Alls of various shapes and sizes started criticising what I wrote, I offered the same challenge that dear old Quinny does when anyone criticises him: Can You Do Any Better?

I’ve always taken the view: Feel Free – I’ve got far better things to do with my time and at least Derek gets paid: I don’t.

So let’s all rejoice, folks. This time – at long last – we actually have a volunteer.

So, John L - it’s all up to you, mate. You are the Man With The Plan after all:

Probably a better idea to divide your match reports and opinions about the club into separate articles in future, then those who simply want to read about the game don't have to trawl through potentially alienating waffle first.

I can’t attend the Carlisle United game on New Year’s Day because of family commitments. So here’s your big chance: put your money where your mouth is and do exactly what you have written above.

Better still, take some photos as well. You know how to contact me and I promise to send whatever you write unedited to the people who publish my reports. If you want to continue to do this – be my guest.

If you don’t, let’s have another volunteer. There are loads of people among us who clearly think they can do a better job – so please don’t come over all bashful now...

I look forward so much to seeing how it should really be done that I am going to start a separate thread about it right now: John L Takes the Reins in which I am going to repeat this post.

So here it is, Merry Christmas... sorry; that's the wrong song.

Happy New Year Everybody.

Oh dear - not a good start, is it? I've tried to send our new correspondent the following message but he has disabled the means for me to do so. So here it is anyway:

Dear Sir,

I've taken you up on the following comment which you made recently:

"Probably a better idea to divide your match reports and opinions about the club into separate articles in future, then those who simply want to read about the game don't have to trawl through potentially alienating waffle first."

Interesting...

So here's your big chance. If you have any problem with the technicalities of doing the match reports, send me a message. There are certain protocols which your report should follow: the teams in full; substitutes with timings of all that happen; the Ref; the Attendance. Other than that, it's up to you.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Best Wishes,

Roger.

No thanks, Roger. It was only a bit of constructive criticism. Sorry that you couldn't take it on board.

Best wishes,
John L.

Roger - I appreciate what you do - I always enjoy your reports - keep 'em coming.

I'm sure lots of fellow SVers enjoy your efforts also - even if they don't make the effort to say so!

All the best for 2019
