Not surprised to be honest but if the manager wasn't prepared to use him then we might as well put his wages to get in another signing.

Just hope that Oswell isn't sent out on loan but wouldn't be surprised as the manager obviously doesn't rate him despite all his efforts to bring him to our club during the close season on a 2 year contract.

Massive loss to the squad/club.

Had a positive influence when he was on the pitch, and an experienced head would have helped the squad, especially the younger players.

Surprised and sad to see him go in all honesty.

But what do we know, we're only the fans :?

Thanks and good luck Thommo with your next 50-100 games, I'll just expect you to score if you return with another team.

Lots of midfield players, so Thommo going may be to free up wages. We'll have to pay Adam Campbell now, or it may be to free up some cash for a player in a position we really need, like a goal scorer? Just guessing.

I hope we don't regret letting Thommo go as we do any number of other players. Not sure what was the purpose of Pigott's loan, he never got a real chance. Oswell is being treated much the same, we don't seem able to develop strikers. I still remember the manager saying Amond had found his level when he was scoring in non-league. Funny how he is still scoring at Newport!

Good luck to Thommo, a great servant of our club. All the best with your next footballing job, as well as with the coaching/A licence and with the academy - I hear GT7 is already going down well in Kendal.

Perhaps we'll see you back at the club in a coaching capacity in the future? I certainly hope so.

Agree there. Jim doesn't have a clue with forwards. Ken McKenna was a forward who scored plenty of goals so we should be better in that department to be honest.

Bit harsh considering how they developed Redshaw, Barkhuizen, Miller and Stockton.

Would not say they developed any of these players, they already had the talent.Ok they gave them a chance to get games under their belts.Tried to make Barky into a full back! Can still see the look on his face when he was put there.

Barkhuizen was a full back at Blackpool under Lee Clark, he was moved to wide right forward by Jim and Ken when he signed. He did play one game there as a necessity, but was always right wing back at least, in some games he was the number 10, like Colchester away a couple of seasons ago.
As for Miller, he couldn't get a game anywhere as he had a bad injury and nobody would take chance on him.
Cole Stockton still hasn't reproduced his form anywhere else other than with us, Tranmere didn't want him and Jim and Ken worked on his touch and finishing in extra sessions twice a week while with us until now we cannot afford him, ironic.
Redshaw was at Alty in Conference North, talented but untried.
Mullin was released by Rotherham and they again turned him into a useful lower league striker who has had a good career.
Just saying.

Totally agree with Freez, just a pity that our management team don't appear to put their faith in Oswell especially when we were determined to beat any opposition to get his signature on a 2 year deal. Can't understand how they can appear to disregard him.....terrible man management or should that be lack of.

Redrobbo, do you think you're campaign to promote Oswell might possibly be hindering his progress?? :)

It’s not a given that Oswell is actually any good you know? It may be that upon signing him and seeing him in training every day Jim doesn’t think he’s up to it.

There seems to be this idea with some that he’s a real talent who will score 20 goals a season if played regularly and that Jim is an idiot for not starting him.

I tend to think he deserves an extended run of games so we can find out for sure but to be honest I’m not holding out much hope of him being the answer to our problems. I think he’d have been a regular in the team since September if he was going to make it.

Has anyone been following the reserves? Has Oswell been playing in the reserves and how many goals has he scored?

Unless we give Oswell an extended run in the first team, we'll never know if he will make it.

It's quite possible that the service he got at Stockport isn't replicated with us. He was used to crosses into the box from the wings from which he scored the vast majority of his goals with his head. Our crossing into the box is an area that we should be working on.

We are unable to score goals on a consistent basis, so why leave a striker on the bench and persist with the same old same old. We can't do any worse surely.... :?: :?: :?:
