All about how good they are....
That pretty much sums up the game I watched. Bury showed their quality, or didn’t they

No doubt that they are a good bunch but i want to hear what we are doing to halt our decline into obscurity not how good an opposition is....or is that wishful thinking on my part

That was a post match interview, which for me summarises the game I watched. The negatives, the positives, an honest assessment. Bury had the quality, and were simply too good for us.

Well Jim...4 minutes on JB basically saying they are the best side in the league with the best players (said 4 times). Old came on at a bad time and wasn't in the game before his honest error. Unfortunate with injuries. We had a go in the second half, was entertaining (!!) at 2-3 we fizzled out. Think there is a couple of claims for a house in the Bentley Bingo stakes! Although he didn't blame the pitch or weather, surprisingly, or the ref! So just 2 lines this week

Which part of the match assessment was wrong then

Quote from a Bury fan from their forum, with regard the post match interview with JB....
“Wow, honest appraisal, and refreshing that a manager tells it as it is.”

What was your opinion of the game and where does it differ from Jim’s assessment?

Call me cynical but Jim mentioned about going to watch Bury before Saturday and that he thought they were one of the best teams in the division. He also mentions about Danny Mayor being the best player in the league and how good Nicky Adams crossing is.
It sounds like he knew this before the weekend, so was there a plan put in place to stop them? It didn't really look like it, Mayor ran us ragged and no one got close to him. Adams did exactly the same thing against Conlan that he did at Gigg Lane earlier in the season, and to no one's surprise ripped him apart all game.
If you know how good Mayor and Adams are, then why are we not keeping tight or closing them down at every opportunity? Are we not putting plans in place to stop the best players from trying to play?
For example, Adams was constantly hugging the line and with Conlan coming inside, all it needed was a quick change of direction and he would have acres to either get a cross in or have a run at our full back. It looked far too easy for them.
Isn't it basic analysis checking strengths and weaknesses of players and teams you're coming up against?

The best players, are what they are for a reason, and make the game look easy, hence they get their title, “best players.” They have the skills, speed of decision making, physical attributes, and the ability to put them all into play throughout the game.
So much easier said, than done, having a plan to stop the best players from playing, especially if they are part of a good all round team. If it was that simple, then surely every team would be a potential, top of the league contender, in any division. Quality will always shine through.

What was your opinion of the game and where does it differ from Jim’s assessment?
we stood like statues while they walked in the first goal, a suicidal back pass gave them the second, the third was a quality goal, we got lucky with the rebound after another shocking penalty, then a good header from Old to make up for his error.
we went to sleep after an injury, when they had a throw in leaving one of their players stood on the bye line with no one within 20 yards of him, and who couldn't be offside,
but why do we wait until were three down before we attack the opposition at home

Other than using language like "
suicidal" instead of "
honest mistake" isn't that broadly what he was saying? You said "
Negative Ned every game, I'm sick of it", yet your assessment is even more negative than Jim's! I thought his interview was a fair assessment of the match.

As others have posted the interview was a fair assessment of the match, my problem is that JB concentrates too much on (in this interview in particular) how good the opposition are rather than telling us how he proposes to get us out of the diabolical situation we find ourselves in. Words of encouragement to the fans are what is needed ( in my opinion) not an interview extolling the attributes of the opposition.
I don't want to hear excuses that have been stated on numerous occasions, tell us what they are doing to rectify a problem that has faced us on too many previous seasons.
Maybe if he was prepared to change playing styles etc would be a welcome start and good to hear that he's being proactive rather than the same old, same old!

Keith, his negativity comes from being to obsessed with what the opposition can do, instead of what we can do !

I agree! I've repeatedly said I want to see us line up in a more adventurous manner and that means two up front.
redrobo wrote:...and good to hear that he's being proactive rather than the same old, same old!
NO!!! I don't want Pork Vale's manager being told how Jim intends to line up the team next week, then give him a week to consider how to counteract us! I want him to find out as we go on to the pitch and he thinks
'oh, that's not what we were expecting'!

Yes, I agree that Jim is too focussed on the opposition and he needs to focus more on us being more of a threat rather than stopping
'them' (whoever '
them' is, good or bad). I've said so repeatedly in other threads. But his post match assessment was fair in my opinion.
Going forwards, I hope he's spending all week focussing on how we're going to score against Vale rather than keep a clean sheet against them. But as I just wrote in reply to Neil, that isn't something I expect to hear in a post match interview.

I don't want him to divulge tactics prior to any game that's not what I implied.
I want him to admit that he will change playing style but NOT what that will be or on field tactics prior to any game. If he came out and said that it will be more attack minded that would be a more than welcome start. Words of encouragement to the fans are required.

I don’t know about you fellas, but for me, with things as they are, for the next, very important game:
I don’t care what team Jim starts with.
I don’t care what team Jim ends with.
I don’t care how we play.
I don’t care what Jim has to say in the post match interveiw, as long as it includes reference to The Shrimps getting 3 pts.
A win at this time would be massive to the team, and equally the supporters.

You have to aim for a 'clean sheet' in order that you give yourself the best possible chance of winning a game, by keeping one you most certainly can't lose

If you aim for a clean sheet, then concede, and struggle to score, then you lose.
Jim Harvey style
'if you score two, we'll score three' can still result in defeat, but at least then it's entertaining!
