Just having a look at Cumbrians.net CUFC forum to see if their is any mention of Richies' contract situation up there. Well there is but it seems they aren't sure how it stands with triggers for contract extensions etc' making things a bit complicated to say the least. They also speculate whether he can be recalled from his loan to us and the concensus is probably not.

However one thing is abundantly clear and that is the irrational, overwhelming abuse and derision the fans up there still appear to have for him

You couldn't blame him for not wanting to set foot in Carlisle again, except maybe in a red shirt next season. They hate him, we love him. Please stay!

Carlisle United have confirmed that just this morning and BBC Radio Cumbria have tweeted it out.

That's right , since the transfer window changed loans are either half season or season long.

Yet again we take a broken player low on confidence and suddenly he becomes a threat, akin to Devitt, Miller, Stockton, Barky, Wildig etc. great to see him flourishing.

Absolutely has to be first on the list for offering a contract for next season (and beyond). Obviously we don't know the ins and outs of his contract at Carlisle, but it was reported that he signed in 2017 on a 2-year deal which expires at the end of this season.

Richie has not only spearheaded our attack since joining, but also our change in fortunes. I think he's been a real catalyst for positive change since January. He gets nothing from the refs, but he gets on with his job regardless, running from the first minute to the last and he knows where the onion bag is!

I'm really hoping the powers that be can make this happen.

Same applies to Collins who hardly got a look in a Colchester after having spent a lot of time out on loan from parent club Wolves.

Both look happy to be getting the game time and also scoring goals which is their business. Also Reece seems to be playing with a lot more confidence knowing that he has a couple of strikers alongside of him , in fact the same applies throughout the team who have confidence in our strike partnership.

The club have to do its best to secure their services next season.

Interestingly our new owners attended last nights game and hopefully took notice of how much as a team we have improved.

Did anybody interact with them? The trust?

I firmly believe we would be well placed for next season if we could secure an attacking lineup of Bennett, Collins, Oates and Mingoia.

How realistic that is might be a separate issue...

According to their published accounts, Carlisle spent £55,000 on Richie. Would they let him leave on a free or trigger his year extension and demand a fee?

It’s an interesting one... trigger the extension and hope to get a fee from him. But if a fee doesn’t materialize, they are left paying the wages of a very unhappy player and probably look at loaning him out again. The other option of course is that the Carlisle manager likes what he’s seen of Ritchie here and wants him to feature in the first team next season?

Not sure how the Carlisle Fans Forum got hold of this info, but they reckon we have offered Richie a 2 year deal....

Would be excellent IF true and would be brilliant if we did a similar deal with Collins. Together they have exceeded my expectations and in Collins's case it offers him some security after various periods out on loan at a number of clubs BUT he has an agent who will be offering to all and sundry to get the best deal he can for BOTH himself and Collins which sometimes is more financially favourable to the agent and NOT the player.

But if he goes into the first team again, under performs as is not happy, no fee is forthcoming, Carlisle lose out all ways round.
