JB is talking on Radio Lancashire tonight about plans for next season and that contract talks albeit at an early stage are underway BUT players will no doubt move on for either more money or a better location.

I suspect that once again it will be a big effort to get the experienced players we so badly need in certain positions but hopefully the Board will be able to provide JB with an improved budget ( albeit very difficult to do so) that he can bring in the players he wants rather having to rely on often the second, third or even fourth choice of players.

Best of luck JB and Co in what will be the usual chaotic close season.

I have no doubt if Richie Bennett was to stay and start a full season he would hit 20+'goals a season.

Apparently John Sheridan has been quoted as saying a number of Carlisle's players who are going to be out of contract will be signing for Chesterfield.
I don't know if Richie Bennett would fall into this category.

I'm sure Keith Curle signed Bennett and it was when Sheridan took over Bennett was frozen out, hence we got Bennett on loan.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Sheridan was the one who decided he didn't want Bennett.

Who are people wanting us to keep on for next season? Off the top of my head, I think we have Old, Lavelle, Sutton, Tutte and Oates all tied down for next season already.

For me Mills and Collins must be first priority now before anyone nabs them. Fleming, Wildig, Cranston and Conlan have all done enough for new contracts I feel. Would also like to see Mendes-Gomes and Jagne given contracts as they have both shown promise. Some will probably disagree but I wouldn't mind seeing Oliver stay. Put a real shift in on Monday and seemed to partner well with Collins. I think Jim has said before he likes two players in each position, so two big forwards (with differing attributes) in Bennett and Oliver may be something he'd like.

Would love to keep all of our current loanees in Mingoia, Bennett and Mandeville. Bennett and Mandeville both out of contract and hopefully have enjoyed their time here enough to want to stay. I hope Jim makes them aware of his track record of giving players a leg up or boosting their careers. Mingoia contracted till 2020, although with Stanley staying up and him seemingly out of Coleman's plans there may be an end of contract by mutual consent etc. Or perhaps that's me just being hopeful!

For me, it's time for Ellison and Kenyon to go. Ellison a legend of course but just looks so off the pace now and our moves generally tended to break down when he got the ball on Monday. Kenyon, for me, just is not good enough with the ball for this league. We look far more secure in midfield with Fleming/Wildig as we can actually do something with the ball when we win it back.

Dilemmas are the goalkeepers, of course, and AJ. Feel Halstead has been very hard done by, and I have literally no idea how to proceed with AJ. A quality player who would be great to keep but does it fit in with the budget?

I'd hate to be in JB's shoes at the moment having to decide who to keep and who to let go.

For me we simply haven't performed well enough on a consistent level to even consider keeping some of the more established players. It's no good suddenly starting to turn it on when the damage has already been done earlier in the season.

So for me I''d let Kevin go but give him an option of moving into a coaching role. Wildig is too injury prone and Kenyon is at times a liability. I also feel that V isn't up to the level on a consistent basis but others may disagree.

Conlon gives his wing man too much room and an increasing number of crosses leading to goals stem from his side, so reluctantly I'd let him go.

Collins isn't on loan. He signed a contract with us.

I assume that as long as we offer better terms then we would receive some compensation if he signs elsewhere.

Regarding Collins....correct I forgot he was signed until end of the season. Here's hoping.....

Neil, I'd like, unsurprisingly, to disagree with you on some of that.

Fleming: at the time of his injury Jim said, and I wholeheartedly agreed with him, that Fleming was probably our player of the season up to that point; it's not just been since his return. He works better with a creative player close to him, as he did with Devitt. As our 2nd longest serving player after Baz, and unless I'm wrong the only other Sammy signing left, isn't he about due a testimonial?.

Wildig: a creative foil for Fleming and seemingly to me and Mrs A the target for a lot of abuse from opponents, hence perhaps the injury record. Another keeper for me.

Kev & Kenyon I tend to agree; I'd seen Alex as a potential future captain, but he's not developed as much as I'd hoped. Oliver I think hasn't generally been played to his strengths, and at times has looked a lot better than his scoring record suggests, but if we can retain Bennett, A-Jay, Collins, we don't need Oliver.

Mandy's another I'd like to get on a permanent deal, although he will still need work. It's a shame about Halstead, as looking to the future he'd be ideal, and for me I'd have kept him in over Baz.

I think you're being unfair on Conlon, as all our fullbacks, under Sammy as well as Jim, have given lots of space to attacking wingers, as I've said before, so it's clearly some strange tactical decision by management rather than individual players.

Do we know for certain that Halstead is leaving ?

Hardly surprising that others see things different in terms of who is going and who is staying. As always it's down to opinions but I respect the views of others who will have their own thoughts.

The more the better as far as I'm concerned.

As for Mark. I'd love him to stay even at the expense of Baz but somehow I just can't see it.

I'd actually be delighted if we could keep this squad in it's entirety. It has been developing through the season, which when you consider the amazing run of injuries, it isn't surprising that we've come good too late. Obviously it is very unlikely to happen, but if we could keep them together, have a full pre-season as a squad, and hit the ground running next season, we could do very well.

There's a great deal of sense in that Keith. I actually thought we put some good performances together at the start of the season, which weren't reflected in the results. If you look back at the comments on here from the first few weeks I know I'm not the only one. I remember after one particular game Fleming's biggest fan (yes Neil, someone thinks even less of him than you) was saying to his mate 'you don't mind losing when they play like that'. I still think there are one or two passengers, and Kev is certainly not a 90 minute player any more, but on the whole the squad is sound, and re. my earlier comment over Halstead, if there is a chance of keeping him, even if we have to give him the start over Baz to do it, I'm all for it.

I agree with all this but it's not going to happen. Jim knows that some of them will be going back to their parent clubs and some will be signed by wealthier clubs. It's just a case of how many and who.
The uncertainty is a nightmare. How can he try for other players when he doesn't know which of the present squad he'll be able to retain.
