O/T Women's World Cup & The Lionesses

I wondered what everybody else thinks about the Women's World Cup and the performance of the Lionesses?

I know people who still say "I can't take women's football seriously and don't bother watching it". But I have really enjoyed the tournament and have been pleasantly surprised by the standard of football and skills of the top players. Also, refreshing to see little in the way of diving and cheating etc. I welcome increased media coverage of the women's game.

And the Lionesses have been great. Clearly not quite as good as the USA team, but it was a great effort last night and were unlucky not to take it to extra time. Well done to them - think they have a good chance of winning the Women's European Championships in 2021.

I've only watched the England games, and I have to say USA were a cut above the rest. England ran them pretty close mind. Unlucky with the offside; that was marginal at best, but a better penalty and who knows what could have happened?

I think the England Ladies team did great last night, particularly second half - the goal they did score was quite skilful and well taken.

It depends what you are comparing the standard to, but overall even though it was an exciting game the actual football was not that great. It'll be interesting to see if there is any improvement over the next 10 years with more money and people playing coming into the game - I hope there is!

I also only watched the England games, but then, I only pay slight attention to non-England games at the men's World Cup too!

I enjoyed it. The games were entertaining. Just a shame they're as good a penalties as we were last season!

I think what will help is they are now starting to play from the ages of 6/7 where as in the past they have probably taken it up a lot later compared to boys who kick a ball as soon as they can walk. This should help improve their natural ability. If you see some of the girls in the under 8s teams etc some of them are better than the boys.
