Still no confirmation that Alex Kenyon is still with us (unless I missed it). Although someone said he has been spotted knocking around.

Anyone else any the wiser?

Should not let him mess us about.Give him a short deadline, and if he does not want to sign, get someone who does!

Is he messing us about?
How?
What do you know that we don’t, pray tell?

He will sign on again once the session draws closer. Unless Oliver recommends him to the cobblers

There’s been a deal on the table for him for about a month now. He’s obviously waiting for better one from somewhere. We’re trying to plan for next season. Love Alex but “He who hesitates is lost”.

Do you know what the deal is?

What if it is something like this (and I'm guessing, I have no 'insider knowledge')...

Jim has told Alex, 'we'd like to keep you, but your role will be very much as a back-up player, so the new contract we're offering you is half last seasons. We know that's a big cut, so if you can find something better, then you leave with our best wishes. If not, you've got that in your pocket to fall back on'.

Alex has then taken some time to see if he can get fixed up. He's not central to Jim's plans, so no pressure. If he re-signs, he'll be on the bench, making appearances when the injuries start and occasionally trying to shore up the defence occasionally. Fair on him, fair on us?

As he is training with the squad, it is obviously not a 'fallen out' situation, so let's just see what happens.

If that’s the case then fair enough. Just don’t want the tail wagging the dog.

For me, Alex is a good squad man, but not someone who is guaranteed a place week in week out.

I can see why Jim has signed Alex on and I am happy Alex is staying due to his commitment and attitude. That said, he isn't good enough for a club pushing on from being strugglers and he must be well down the pecking order.

You could wrong Keith, but I think what you say makes a lot of sense.

I personally don't see Kenyon making an impact on the 1st 11. However, it sounds like Jim, reading between the lines of his interview, set him some fitness goals over the break and he's come back in great shape. Perhaps the conversation has been as you said, but it's also conditional on "you coming back in certain condition"..

You can't fault his passion for the club so from that respect good luck to him.

From an interview with Alex, i read it as if he turned up out of condition and he had to sort himself out before he got a new deal.

Quite, Berlinwaller. That's what I meant, but perhaps I wasn't clear mate.

Alex is a useful squad player, as others have said and I’m glad he’s signed.

Towards the end of last season, we threw caution to the wind a bit and played Wildig/Fleming in the holding midfield positions. I thought we might get a bit over run but it worked really well - having a ball playing midfield who work hard seems to be the answer.

So I don’t see Alex being first name on the team sheet but there are going to be tough away games on cut up pitches where Alex will be a useful option for us. We have to remember we won’t always be able to play pretty football and Alex will help us there.

Glad he is staying - even if he won't always be in the starting 11.

You can always rely on him to put a shift in.

I like Alex and I'm delighted he's staying. As others have said, he's not going to be the first name on the team sheet, but he's useful to have in the squad and I get the impression he's a decent bloke generally.
