Jim’s contract up in 2020 (not a Bentley Out thread)

I’ve made this thread, not as a “Bentley out” or “Bentley in” thread, but to actually try and have serious debate about the upcoming Summer.
Jim’s contract runs out in June 2020, hence after this season, he would be a free agent. This season is pivotal as to whether we renew his contract, or wind it down and let him go, taking the gamble to try and find a new replacement.
In my opinion, there would be plenty of managers chomping at the bit to manage us, whether that be ex-pros, non-league prospects wanting to rise up the leagues, or EFL managers who want to get back on the ladder. The issue is not whether we will find someone, the real issue is whether they will create more stability at the club.

As does the owners pledged 2 years. If they do look to sell, then they won't want a contracted manager on League salary if we remain in our current League position

I know some people go on about 'who could we get with our budget', but there is another aspect to it. Despite barely staying up most seasons, the board has remained very loyal rather than constantly chopping and changing managers like they change their socks, as happens at so many clubs. I personally like that there's no knee-jerk reaction, and if I was an out of work manager, that would be something that would have a big impact on my decision-making. Yes it's always going to be a small budget, but equally the board, as least as it stands at the moment, realise that and don't make unrealistic demands of the manager to outperform the budget restraints every season. So, whilst I do think come the end of the season we should part ways with Jim, hopefully on friendly terms, I don't think it should be that difficult to find someone else willing to jump in. I also agree with Marky's point that, particularly given the results and the vocal objection from a reasonably large section of the fanbase, it might make the club more saleable if a new owner is not having to commit to keeping the status quo or forking out to pay off a contract to bring in someone new.

If/when Jim leaves, I don't think we will have any problem filling his place.
The question is whether a replacement will be better, worse or about the same?
I don't think anyone would doubt Jim's commitment to Morecambe FC and it must be doubtful that anyone would match him in that respect. Most would have walked during some of our bleakest times, such repeatedly not being paid.
To a large extent, it will depend upon any new owners. What is their background, what is their history? What do they know about Morecambe FC? Is a new owner from outside is more likely to want to have a clean sweep than someone from within?
Loyalty goes both ways.

Why not just let the owner pick the team and choose the tactics ala Oldham and be done with it

It's a tough one, two ways of looking at this.
I'd like a change and see fresh ideas on the pitch.
However! I can honestly see the new Owners pulling out before long, and we will soon find ourselves back to not being unable to pay players and staff, and Jim previously as shown loyalty in dark times, and would so again, cant knock the Man's passion.

There are only 72 FL managers job so I am pretty sure there will be plenty of applicants. I had a feeling that when the new owners took charge they would offer Jim a new contract to win favour with the fans. It went the other way with the Paul Ince links, the Coach they brought in and the casting of a vote in a FB poll. I can't see Jim having his contracted terminated or renewed with the owners over half way through their two year plan so I think things will run their natural course and part ways in the summer.

You'll end up with a complete nobody like us and if the owners fancy the self promotion they'll go for a real dead leg like Scholes

Sad to read in other threads that lifelong fans are choosing to miss games, as I did for the Exeter game due to frustration caused by the teams performances.jb only has a few months left,so why don't the club negotiate a settlement with him and ken? Then we can start a new chapter under a new manager with new ideas. This is the only way forward in my view, the club needs reinvigorating on the field before it is too late and more loyal fans stop attending games, every team we play against pass and move all the time with purpose and a plan and they know where their team mates will be,all we do is run around and kick and chase like they have never played together and it has been like this for years I am sorry to say! The manager is supposed to coach players to improve their performances, but this is not happening,it is obvious that the players are not playing for him.It is long overdue that changes need to happen now!

I would say so. How many no longer attend games because they can't cope with the same rubbish every year? I would say a hell of a lot. We can barely attract 1000 fans these days.

Point taken, but there's other factors too of course like the rising costs, other priorities etc etc.
Again, you're entitled to your opinion and I respect that.

Yeah you are probably right regarding the other factors, but I myself know a handful of fans who used to attend every week who no longer can be bothered with it, and when I ask them their reason, they say it's because of the shocking hoof ball tactics that Jim employs. I will hold my hands up and say that I hardly attend any more for that exact reason. I don't want to waste my money or time watching a team with no fight, no passion, no drive, nothing! Until Jim is gone I will continue to stay away.

Most? Even the Facebook poll didn't suggest that. Just because you say something repeatedly, doesn't make it true.

Jim will always be welcome at Morecambe FC.
He has an enormous job on to turn things round , he has to look back at matches where things went right and see what is different with now. Look at the last 14 matches of last season , and although we have lost some key members of that side the set up and the way we played should be possible to replicate.
Jim knows he cannot have many if any more days like the Scunthorpe or Walsall ones.

You can't go by the views of a few people who shout loudly on Facebook, Twitter, on here or even at the games. As with most contentious issues, there will probably be a silent majority who only express their opinions in private. I'm not saying most want him gone, nor am I saying most want him to stay, I'm just saying that, unless you get a substantial number of the fans expressing opinions one way or another, you cannot with any authority say what the majority want (although clearly you can do it with confidence if you've convinced yourself you're right).

You can never use a Facebook poll anyway because there are that many fans of other clubs who follow the Fans Page who vote just for a "laugh".
I noticed a Rotherham fan had voted "Out" for example.
