First training session and first game

First training session and first game

Postby redrobo » Mon Nov 11, 2019 12:06 pm

With our new manager assuming responsibility for his first training session today and first home match tomorrow v Carlisle it will be interesting to hear and see how his new charges respond to new methods in both training and game time.

Former player Ryan Edwards who was signed by DA whilst at Plymouth was on Radio Lancashire on Friday explaining how different the squad will function under the new regime and for some it will be a culture shock that some may find initially difficult after 'his words' having had a relatively easy time under JB and Co.

For instance fitness is a big part of DA's footballing preparation with double day sessions the norm as well as his organisational skills in preparing full training schedules in blocks of 20 days. DA evidently prints out details of what his squad can expect to be doing for the next 20 days training and posts the sheets on the dressing room walls so that every player is fully aware of what is expected of them.

I can see a few players wondering about their futures but with a number (not sure who or how many) on 2 year contracts DA may be restricted in his efforts to improve the squad come January when it wouldn't surprise me that some funds suddenly became available from the owners who strangely have remained silent about the new appointment.... :?: :?: :?:

I assume that means, he might bring in new people to manage/ execute fitness/ training regimes etc , based on the implications of that sort of info??

Not necessarily; our club physio Simon Farnworth is highly respected in the game as are the numerous medical staff the club have at its disposal. Our fitness coach can only do what has been asked of him as the previous regime obviously had their own ideas about fitness and training methods. The clubs technology and video technician has been with us for some time and by all accounts does an excellent job.

Coaching wise John Mc may be a casualty but he's performed well when Ken Mc was unavailable and proved his value to the club and appears to have been highly respected by the players BUT DA may have other ideas and bring in a new face in that role or even as an additional coach.

Goalkeeping coach would for me be Baz as he prepares for his future with his one year deal expiring come June.

The only incomer that I can see is in the position of Assistant Manager but DA may decide to ask Kevin to take on that role for the rest of the season.

As Rod said on DA's appointment, DA can bring in his own team if that is what he wants.

I agree to most of your points rr, and hope you are right. Just my thoughts, from RE’s words...Jim and co.

Presumably, though, the wages of his own team would come out of the same wages budget, so if he can work with existing personnel, (Baz & Kev in particular) he'll have more money for players. It makes sense to keep Baz as goalie coach and sub (two roles for one wage) and maybe even Kev as an assistant manager/coach also playing off the bench (two roles for one wage). I fear that if he brings in his own assistant and goalie coach, then Baz & Kev won't be renewed in any role next Summer. At the moment, he has saved two wages (Ken and Lee) so if he can work with what we have, he has money to pay two new players in January (either signed or loaned).

Given quite a few of our squad seem to be unfit and run out of steam during a match, can only be a good thing.

Tomorrow night will be interesting on three accounts. Carlisle must win to stay in so they will be going for it. Do we simply go for the kick about to try and save injuries? Does DA even put a first team out knowing we are already out? And what will the gate be midweek in this weather.

One would assume that a second string team will be played.

Such a shame the game is a dead rubber and that will have a huge affect on the crowd as I certainly wont waste my time and money attending a pointless game.

My prediction would be:

350 Morecambe + 450 Carlisle = 800.
Had the game meant something there would be twice as many home fans.

Got my ticket for CPrem right behind home dugout tomorrow so I can see how the new manager shapes up and see who his staff are.

I think it is a decent first game for a new Manager. Nobody is expecting anything and we are already out of it so he has nothing to lose. It is a good chance for him to have a look at players in and about the squad without the must win pressure of a relegation dog fight. There will be a new pre match routine for the players to experience and a new voice in the dressing room.

DA will have only had 2 days with the players so don't be expecting the brave new world just yet but it will be good to see how he goes about his business.

DA took his first official press media interview this afternoon and discussed that his approach will be totally different than that of JB. Sounds as though the first training session went well but changes will be made in the January window.

He will concentrate in the time between on improving the work ethic of the squad and getting results to see us climb the table.

First 2 league games are away so it will be interesting to see how we perform against Crawley and in particular table toppers Crewe.

Has an excellent reputation with the PNE Assistant Manager but I didn't realize that DA's father is also well respected as a former professional who assists his son in assessing players that DA may be interested in. Keeping it in the family.... ;)

Yet another and growing example of how you twist words to suit your agenda.

You call me bitter......that's rich coming from you who has a history of denigrating individuals and one in particular over the years.

If he doesn't do things differently to Jim Bentley then we are in trouble. Jim was starting to look like Captain Smith after the Titanic had hit the iceberg !

You can't play your second string. I don't know the exact rule but I think about half of the team have to have started the previous league game or something! This tournament is not needed.

Is it £10K a win :o

Radio Lancs were sayig that Accy have taken the competition very seriously as the extra income would help with bringing in new players in Jan.
