HAPPY CENTENARY YEAR!!!
Morecambe FC are 100 years old this year. Formed on 7th May 1920. Obviously, we have the current, precarious position to pull away from, but if we get through this season without going down, we will never have been relegated in those 100 years.
We've had some tough times, where it looked like we could fold, most notably the early to mid 1980's where we were so desperate, Ken Ormerod as club secretary, had to raid the fruit machine in the bar in order to pay players' wages. Ken would then be back the following day to wash the kit. Ken practically dragged the club through those dark days single handedly at times! Every Morecambe Fan should know Ken's name, just as much as current Morecambe legends like Rod Taylor.
Then of course, our recent ownership debacles, with Brazilian & Italian crazy men or con-men depending upon point of view, as well as a Kuwaiti (who from what I can gather was honourable) offering us an international flavour to our near demise!
We may not be out of the woods yet, but we're hopefully levelled off and can start to look forwards. Hopefully our future as a Football League team will be based upon our own merit on the pitch and not due to other clubs suffering misfortune off it.
One last game of 2019 then start celebrations for 2020!
Oh... and happy New Year to you lot too!
