MORECAMBE boss Derek Adams has made his first signing since taking over at the Shrimps.

Adams has signed experienced midfielder Toumani Diagouraga on a deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old former Paris St-Germain trainee whose last club was Swindon Town has joined until the end of the season and will be reunited with Adams after being a part of his side at Plymouth Argyle.

The defensive-midfielder was born in Paris and started his career at Paris Saint-Germain before being scouted and joining Watford’s Academy, where he signed a professional contract in November 2004.

After making his first team debut in the Hornets’ 2-1 League Cup win against Wolves in September 2005, he spent two short loan spells at Swindon Town and Rotherham United, before a year on loan at Hereford United in 2007 where he made 50 appearances and helped secure promotion to League One.

Diagouraga then signed a permanent deal at the Bulls in July 2008.

In June 2009, Toums signed for Peterborough United before moving to Brentford on loan in January 2010, where he ended up signing a permanent deal in July of the same year.

Brentford would be his home until 2016 where he would go on to make 188 appearances for the Bees and meet Uwe Rosler who managed the side between 2011 and 2013. In February and March 2014, Toums made eight loan appearances at Portsmouth, before being recalled to Brentford where he helped secure promotion to the Championship.

In the 2014/15 season, Diagouraga made 43 appearances for Brentford. Finishing in 5th place secured them a position in the play-offs, only to be beaten by Middlesbrough 5-1 on aggregate in the semi-final.

The 30-year-old then signed for Leeds United in January 2016 where he would make 16 appearances for the club before being loaned to Ipswich in January 2017 for the remainder of the season.

In October 2017, he joined League One side Plymouth Argyle until January 2018 when he reunited with Rosler at Fleetwood Town, scoring on his debut in a 2-1 away win against Southend United.

Adams said: “Toumani was with me at Plymouth Argyle and did ever so well for me when he was there. He came into the midfield and used the ball well.

“He has got good experience at the level and it was only a couple of years ago that he was Brentford's player of the year and he will be a good addition to the squad.''

That is a proper pedigree. Looks a big strong lad in the middle of the park. Got to be happy with this one.

Rumours that Adam Phillips, midfielder, young, has also signed or is signing too. Local lad, went to Ripley, on with Norwich recently, but now at Burnley. :D

Plymouth fans seem to think that's an amazing signing but a lot of people are saying he's slipped off more recently and is way out of shape.

Hopefully Derek can get him back to his best.

All sounding great so far. Just need the “sounding” to become reality on the pitch, and even more lost voice to come for me. Roll on.

I notice in the pic Adam is wearing number 3 training kit .

Does this mean Conlan on way out or just borrowing spare kit

Exciting times!
Should be more than enough to secure league status

DA said that the transfer window usually starts brightly, dips off and then picks up towards deadline day. It would be great to get everyone in this week and used to their surroundings before the next game. What a time to be alive.

Never heard you say that once in all the time Bents was manager, obviously you were dead in that time

I don't understand why you use such morbid terminology. Thought you might have reigned it in after your horrific metaphors last month.

Like the way the DA hasn't hung around and got players in particularly in areas that he feels we need to improve. He obviously is doing his homework as well as bringing in player(s) who he knows from his previous club(s).

The French lad sounds quite a catch and look forward to him being a major influence in our midfield / defensive area. Just hope that as a consequence that Brewitt doesn't become a casualty as for me he has shown a lot of potential to date.

Both the Burnley lads sound OK and look forward to seeing how they and the other newbies fit into the new team format.

Wonder who will be on their way to balance the books... :?: :?: :?:

Just need a striker with a proven record and we should be OK going forward.

So that's 3 in and only 1 out on a short loan , thought Derek said the squad was too big . Not a bad sign if we can sign players without releasing others first. I can only presume there will be players leaving shortly we can't sustain a squad that big !

The fragile truce was always destined to failure as one Leopard still hasn't changed his spots.

Excellent news! Look like they are good signings. Well done to DA for doing a great job getting them signed so promptly and bringing changes and improvements to the squad. The changes will certainly make the next few games exciting prospects. COYS!!!

Really not sure what your problem is but I am not going to take a blind bit of notice of your bizarre ramblings anymore.

Like it! Derek straight onto fixing “Central Midfield” no messing :)

Although this
Manchester-born Cooney – a right-sided defender or wing-back capable of playing across the back four – came through the youth ranks at Gigg Lane before signing a first professional contract with Bury in October, 2018

can’t be looking to replace George Tanner? also Cooney looks to small to play as a C/B anyway can’t wait to see these guys play :D

Only worry I have about Slew is that he as had loads of clubs and as only been playing recently in northern premier league

I picked up on that.

Unless it’s like at the start of the season at the Fans night when fans can sponsor players? also it’s good publicity for the Broadwalk, he’s going to be on a good few hundred £££ a week easy!

My only concern with the signings to date is that 2 of them have little if any EFL experience and 1 is currently playing non league.

The situation we find ourselves in means for me that we need experienced pros who can handle the pressure of a relegation battle.

Only time will tell if DA can do the business but he thankfully is certainly putting his mark on the team.

But! Derek as worked with two of them before, so must be confident they can carry out instructions on the pitch.

Hence Dereks interviewed remark about “we’re only asking players to do the basics” and some failing to do that.
