Absolutely, they have gambled at spending their parachute money to get promotion but it failed. It's like this pandemic has given them a get out to blame it all on.

Just shows how valuable the EFL money is, even we don't lose £100K a month, well not yet anyway :?

As well as the loss of income from 5 home games, probably £200K plus, there is all the hospitality and sponsorship to consider

If we were relegated, I'd rather the parachute money be spent on establishing the club in the National League or even National League North rather than gamble the club's existence chasing promotion.

EFL statement

Just to be hoped that the unscrupulous Chairmen at some Clubs don't pocket the loan and keep it to themselves

Basically, it seems as if the club were (are) running out of money and needed an injection of cash.

Former Director, Mike Hiunchliffe, has loaned the club some money for an unknown length of time (possibly until the bailout money is received from the EFL and the government wage cover at end of April).

As security, he's secured the loan against land owned by the football club. As the land at the back we don't know who owns and the land at the front has already been sold, I can only imagine that it is the car park land to the right of the club. If the company fails to repay the loan then the land will go into his ownership.

Andy Holt has posted on Twitter this morning regarding yesterdays statement. He cuts through the smoke and mirrors and explains how the measures affect him and Stanley. Worth a read and a follow

This hits reality

"..the whole process is just fiddling whilst Rome burns.

To be clear, if a succession of clubs go bust, players are not getting paid.

@ASFCofficial will not be deferring because the benefit of a months deferral is not worth the downside for players."

Looks like a number of L1 and L2 clubs are getting closer to the edge.

I still feel that the only way to guarantee that we have a viable EFL 2 next season is to write off this current campaign as being null and void. I realize that opinions will be divided but for clubs to play behind closed doors just to fulfill this season with no gate money but still overheads to pay is an non starter for me.

Whatever happens there has to be a radical rethink of the EFL structure and that may mean a North and South divisional set up which a number have called for in the past.

I full realize that whatever happens in the future that it will not meet with the satisfaction of sections of fans, club Directors and Club owners.
