Don't think DA fancies Mark as his GK. rumoured that Port Vale wanted him, but for some reason DA wouldn't let him go. Probably just marking time now till the end of the season as 3rd choice. As for AJ, I agree that he is far more important, and we could do with his input sooner rather than later.

Read somewhere that Derek is going with Silva Mendes as a sub rather than Mark Halstead to get round the academy rule (to name a full bench, the 7th sub needs to be an academy player/graduate) - which allows us to name 6 experienced outfield players +Andre (Academy) rather than 5 + Mark + outfield academy lad. It's not a reflection of the pecking order; I assume if there's a known injury to Turner leading into a game, Mark will still be the next in-line.
Obviously a gamble if your keeper gets injured during a game - we saw Oldham do something similar against us and it backfired on them when a young lad came on and struggled. It probably needs looking at on a league-wide level tbh - not sure its in the spirit of what the EFL are trying to promote and obviously detrimental to senior goalkeepers...... although nobody is breaking any rules as such.

Freez and Glen have mentioned Mark in their commentaries for away games; although not named as a sub, he has travelled down with the squad, has kicked around pre match and generally looks chatty and happy with the others. So whatever is going on, Mark would appear on the surface to be ok with it.

Oldham's first choice keeper was replaced by the injured one who's on loan, he himself was sent out on loan to Aberdeen after being frozen out, hence why a little kid with zero experience of a proper game was brought on and it could and should of been a real mauling because of it.

Yup, must admit, Freez's [not much of a] conspiracy theory made perfect sense. If Jake had been injured in warm up, Mark would probably have come in at last minute, hence why he travels.

Good squad management by DA. We lost McGowan and had to put Hedley on the bench to fulfill the home grown quota. When Hedley was released we had to name 6 subs. Will Carlos ever qualify as home grown?

A player qualifies as ‘Home-Grown’ when they have been registered on the books of a club for 2 seasons, or 36 cumulative months, before their 21st birthday, so Carlos isn’t going to qualify for that.
