Just read that some insurance companies will not pay out if you have an accident during the period of lock down UNLESS you can prove that your journey was necessary.
So....if you are driving a car for anything other than work, food shopping or caring for an elderly person or child minding you could expect your insurance company to NOT pay out as you will not be covered by your policy.
Advice is to check with your insurance company.....

I don't think they would be able to prove that you weren't making a legal journey to buy food.
My car insurance company DIrect Line have refunded some of my premium because of much lower mileage during the pandemic. My mileage has halved from 1,000 per month to around 500 per month. Less chance of a prang I suppose is the reason.

FAKE NEWS!According to ABI website -
If I drive during the lockdown period, will my insurance be invalidated?Your cover will not be affected if you drive during the lockdown period. However, all motorists should follow Government advice and avoid non-essential travel.https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-iss ... insurance/

There is no "but" about it. People will still be insured and spreading false information like this serves no purpose.

I will point out that you have to be careful.
At the start of the first lockdown I thought I would see about using our camper (Peugeot Boxer self conversion) for carrying food parcels & the like. Everyone said "it's fine, they've said your policy will cover you" but when I looked into it (abi site again) it stated Private Car policies would cover you for such mercy missions during Co-vid.......but that's not a van, is it?
So I phoned the insurance company & they said "Oh no, we only cover private cars for that, not campers or vans...or anything else"

There are a lot of converted vans out there , particularly after this year, many folk will find themselves uninsured for some of these vehicles that haven't been reclassified or not have an engineers report

yes, it's true you have to reclassify to a camper. There are several advantages to that, you can go faster for example!! (only 10mph) but, comparethemeerkat etc. won't quote for a self build. I went for a specialist place, it was cheaper than a van in the end anyway.
(and you can go onto Saltayre tip without any permit or appointment!)
