It isn't a surprise to read that Derek has a clause in his contract. He took over a team in the bottom 2 with most of the season already played so it is understandable that a Manager of his calibre put a clause in.
It would be devastating to see DA leave. I could understand a return to Scotland but I can't get my head around him going to the shit show over in Yarkshire.
It will be a test of the clubs ambition and hopefully they can convince DA to stay and sign a new deal. You couldn't blame Derek for moving on now that he is hot property after being unemployed for a bit.

Derek could have taken the Hearts Job when he'd only verbally agreed to join Morecambe, Man of his word you could say.
Right now Derek must be getting huge job satisfaction.

Equally he knows that we stand by our managers and give them a fair crack of the whip. Something that the majority of other clubs won't do.

I don't think there's much substance to these rumours. I can't see why he'd want to move on with how well we're playing and, more importantly, how things are going for him.

I can understand Derek wanting to return to Scotland as some time in the future but he's still young and think he'll stay with us as things are going well unless a 'bigger club' comes calling. When I say 'bigger club" I do not include Bradford!

Exactly, I don’t know why he’d return to Scotland so soon after their owner literally sacked him! And what more would there be to achieve with Ross County? He did pretty much everything possible with them. And as for Bradford, he’d get a higher weekly pay packet but within 18 months he’d most likely be unemployed again...
Ultimately it’s his choice, so he’ll stay with us.

Inevitable that DA is generating interest of other clubs BUT for me he seems like the type of person who remains loyal especially when he well remembers the time when no other club wanted him but we gave him a chance and our reputation of going for the long game rather than short term will hopefully stand us in good stead with him when the rumours turn into fact.
I hope that our BoD act and give DA the future stability offered so frequently to JB. To not act would be foolish and not in the best interests of all parties.

I know it is all speculation and we haven't heard of any official interest but it is a watershed moment for the club and BoD's.
Do they try and sell the club to Derek as a progressive one with an exciting blue print for the future and sign him up on a new deal? Will he be given the tools to push us on like Andy Holt has given Coley at Accrington or will we revert back to the bad old days of being happy if we are the 3rd worst team in the League?

This is traditionally contract negotiation time , he would be asking questions regarding the january window as well as his own contract, question is , does he need any new players?
I would say not ...

Hey....you're back....brilliant to hear from you again Old Spud....
As for new players, I think we need another option up front but I trust in DA and our BoD to do what they and the finances suggest is best...long term.
The days of short term requirements are hopefully discarded to the 'no longer required' bin...

If the rumours are true and Derek turned down Hearts to stop with us then why would he go back to Ross County (much smaller club than Hearts), particularly to an owner who sacked him once before?
As for Bradford my bantam supporting mate tells me they are now owned by some Germans who have really tightened the purse strings (possibly why they are struggling). First bad run he'd be sacked again.
At least we back our managers with job security.

He has us 5th and within touch of the teams at the top so it is a stick or twist situation. I expect him to be asking for a few bob to maybe bring in a player or 2 to really kick us on and make a promotion challenge. This is new ground for the board as we are normally scratching about for players to keep us up!

i expect Derek will be asking if money available very soon for a prolific C/F, its all what is missing.
Just look at Accrington Stanley now established in L1, with bigger Crowds(before Covid) going forward.

I reckon that he will be asking for a training ground and better facilities.
Prolific strikers cost big bucks and I don't think we need one. Cole is shining in the target man role but we do lack quality in depth up top.
Twitter is full of Bratfud and Ross County fans all wanting Derek at their clubs. Lets hope we can match his ambition and convince him he can be successful here. Who on earth would want to live in Bratfud anyways?

Perhaps as fans we ought to let him know how grateful we are?

It was a bit tongue in cheek but always good when it gets you all excited. For the record, I've been told Derek isn't impressed with the Uni facilities.
The Twitter page is nothing to do with me but i'm sure your Chesterfield match report will get a mention

A rumour regarding the training ground no doubt and so pleased you enjoyed my thoughts after the Chesterfield oops Colchester game....
Merry Christmas BW.

Went up to the favourite for the Ross County job last night, which thankfully proved to be a load of nonsense as they've appointed John Hughes as their new manager now:
https://www.rosscountyfootballclub.co.u ... ed-managerThink Ross County was the more likely option than Bradford given the personal link.
I also think we're probably one of the 'nicest' jobs to have in many ways at the moment. There's very little pressure beyond the target of staying up, and as far as I can see we don't have a meddlesome board trying to stick their hands into player recruitment etc. It seems like DA gets told the budget, maybe tries to get a bit more wriggle room, then gets trusted to use it well. (This is not ITK stuff, just what it seems like from the outside). We don't have a training ground, but do have access to good facilities at the university. Not a big budget but no huge unrealistic expectations.
With manager sackings such a regular thing (especially at clubs like Bradford), the support and long term backing of our board is quite a valuable selling point of the club.

An early Xmas present! I agree, I thought the Ross County job was the more probable so happy to see they have gone elsewhere. I think somebody will hop off the managerial roundabout and get a torrid 6 months at Bradford before hopping back on.
Still need to be on the front foot and get Derek tied down longer.
