O/T Paddy Madden

Postby Gone_Shrimping » Sat Mar 20, 2021 9:20 am

An article in todays Daily Mail.

Stockport County in the Conference paid Fleetwood Town £250,000 for Paddy Madden this week.

They also gave him a 3 and a 1/2 year contract worth £3,500 per week.

They will be the next Salford City when they get back in the EFL 2 :o :o

Stockport can get decent crowds of 3000 cant they?

so as a one off transfer fee they're getting a goal machine who has 53 goals in 149 appearances for Fleetwood, so if it gets them promotion then its been an good bit of business?

Stockport are getting crowds of zero aren't they? They're in the National League due largely to overspending. Looks like they've not learned, as it is a huge gamble... again.

goes without saying theres no crowds at the moment, hence saying "Stockport can get"

yes its a gamble, but if Madden stays fit its like a guaranteed goal return, goals win matches, winning matches, wins promotion.

Good player but £250K is a lot especially for what is a non league club BUT if they've got money to burn (waste) then good luck to them.

If it gets them promoted then they will see it as money well spent but it could also turn out to be disastrous....

They are currently 5th on 46 points, with Sutton top of the table on 56 but Stockport have 2 games in hand over 2nd placed Harlepool who are on 50 points.

Tight at the top in both the National and EFL2.

It depends how many of their players are on similar wages to Madden. If they are then gates of 3,000 won't be anywhere near enough to pay that sort of wages bill.

By making a point of his wages it could disrupt others in the team.

Lost today 1-0 at Sutton.

All teams above them in the league won so the gap grows,

But that's my point Andy. At a time when many clubs are concerned about even surviving, it is a huge gamble. We're all hoping that fans are allowed back in soon, possibly even in time for the play-offs. But what if there is another flare-up and fans can't watch at the start of next season? Also, if lots of clubs need to off-load players come the end of the season, they may have someone on huge money & long contract at a time when other players are having to lower their wage demands just to get a job?

It's a big gamble by a club that has financial problems in the past. Either they're a play thing for a wealthy backer or they've not learned from previous mistakes?

Stockport are now owned by Mark Stott. A local lad who grew up near Edgeley Park and is a county fan. He is also extremely wealthy having made a fortune from property deals.I think Stockport have landed lucky with this owner and £250,000 is loose change for him. Shows what we are up against when you have the likes of them,Salford and also Wrexham being massively funded within our region. Can we compete to attract the better players? Not sure.

Out of our range I would think.''

What are they paying John Rooney?? Gets promoted with Barrow but turns down league football to return to the National League. Albeit Stockport are a bigger club. Shows that money is king and players at a certain level are looking for security and league football is not such a big carrot. Although I agree Stockports short term aim is a return to the league. Salford were purportedly paying Adam Rooney £4k per week, must be something in the name!! Morecambe cannot compete for certain players but Derek Adams has proved the merit in astute recruitment and the team is more important than the individual.
