Thank you Derek

Thank you Derek for bringing this club of ours back to life. For making us dream and then making our dreams come true on Monday.

My 12 year old boy told me Monday was the greatest day of his life and I think hearing that was the best moment of mine.

Good luck at Bradford City.

Seconded. He made us believe again. He kept us up and assembled a great squad of players for this season. As well as the promotion, we had the cup runs too. I for one haven't got a bad word to say about him and I don't blame him for moving onto what he believes will be a better job while his stock is very high.

- Best ever points total
- Highest ever division
- Never got further in the League Cup than we did this season
- Never got further in the FA Cup than we did this season
- Guides us just 1 point off automatics, giving us the chance to see our lads in the flesh for the first time in 15 months
- Extra-time win at Wembley in front of 4,000 Shrimps
- Improved every player he kept
- Plucked Carlos from the reserves and made him into one of the league’s most exciting players
- Most chances created in the league
- Gave Kev his comeuppance

Thanks for everything Derek. It’s been incredible

It turned out to be a match made in heaven. Pity it couldn't have lasted longer. Nevertheless a big thank you for turning this club around. You'll always be remembered as the man who banished the tag 'little old Morecambe'.

Indeed Broadway Shrimp if this has taught us anything it is we can dream big and it is possible to attract good managers and players.

I hope the club has learnt a lot from Derek's ambition and plans are in place to now kick on further both on and off the pitch.

Probably a fitting end to this most surreal of seasons!

Our centenary season 'celebrated' with no fans at any league matches. Two Premiership ties and a trip to Wembley, ending with promotion and our shortest serving manager since Leighton James in 1994!

Thanks Derek, that was a season we all dreamed of for years !

Hopefully the board have someone lined up to make us compete in league one, survival would be an even better achievement next season in that division.

Was he that much of master class or was Jim massively underachieving for years ?

It was definitely a master class, but at a different time. I genuinely doubt that Derek would have achieved that if he'd had to clear up dog mess off Turner's Field before training and get the players motivated even when they hadn't been paid. But also, I doubt if we'd have pulled in the quality of Diagouraga, Sono'o & Knight-Percival without Derek's wider contacts.

Jim over-achieved season after season, when we were losing our best players simply to keep the lights switched on and planning to build an under-water casino.

Derek took over-achieving to a new level.

Now we need someone with the ability to simply keep us in League One next season. We're back to being happy with fifth from bottom this time next year.

Thanks for everything Derek! Brilliant season, just a shame you didn't have the bottle to have a go in League One ;)

That aside, I am very grateful for the past season.

That also aside, I hope he crashes and burns at Bradford, getting the sack in October with Bradford fans kicking off about his style of play

Not the best turn of phrase...

I hope he does well there, we stay up comfortably and kick their backsides in the following season!

Thanks Derek for the incredible journey you took us on last season. You are an ambitious man and I hope you reach the level your skills and abilities deserve.

Timing could have been better so I also hope we screwed Bratfud for every penny we could for your services.

UTS.

Thanks Derek - that was an amazing season!

Sad that you have chosen not to stay, but glad that we had you at the helm to get us into League 1. I hope the belief, spirit and professionalism that you have instilled at the Club can be maintained under the new manager.

Good luck at Bradford and in your future career.

Whilst acknowledging the fantastic job D A has done in gaining promotion, he has abandoned us at a critical time and is likely to weaken our squad by taking players with him. The bigger challenge is maintaining our League 1 status and he has ducked out of this.Promotion will look good on his CV but he has followed the money IMO

DA is driven, single minded, stubborn, aloof, can be fiery and at times hard work. The players have been in training most Sunday’s since the turn of the year. They are fitter than they have been ever, that’s from most of the squad. But he mustered a squad of misfits, cast offs, has beens and never where’s into a team with a will to win, guts to defend and never say die attitude.
Even at Wembley we didn’t do ourselves justice but maybe the luck that deserted us in most of the big games against our rivals came to shine on us on the big day.
DA had everybody onside and pulling together, and for that and his vision in assembling a team that is easily way more talented than the some of its parts, a massive thank you.
Derek was very hard to like, never mind love, his abrasive interviews when we didn’t get the rub of the green, his no messing treatment and subsequent dropping of some players, and his unemotional yet professional training and tactical regime. However, his players respected him and knew he would get the best out of them.
Astute tactician, he made sure his players understood their roles and that the tactics could change three and four times in a game, his game management and ability to spot the opponents strengths and nullify them while identifying the weaknesses to exploit made him a a superb coach.

It’s been a pissy 16 months with no crowds, but on the field nobody could have dreamed that it would end with such success.
For that, we will all be eternal grateful.
I wish him well at Bradford.

Thanks for the memory.

Totally agree. No reason the Board can't do it again if they choose the right candidate.

That's a very good summary of the man, there is just something about him maybe the single mindedness which makes him a bit on an enigma, It's like the bloke shows no emotion at all you wonder at times if he even likes his job or does he just see it as a job to pay the bills.

I think everything he does is pre planned and well calculated and that included taking the Morecambe job. He knew 12-24 months of doing well with us would get his reputation on the up again and it was a calculated risk, I don't think he ever had any intention of staying beyond his contract he was here to do a job for a set period of time and that was it.

The other thing I have never understood is why he is so hated by neutral fans I mean type Derek Adams into twitter and he is up there with Graham Westley and Steve Evans as the most hated football managers, even Ross County fans didn't give him a glowing reference when I asked them which seemed strange you would think he would be a god there.

Maybe it is a blessing in disguise he has done an amazing job doing what he does best and it's time to move on before things go sour like they did at his previous clubs.

He can't be all that much of a bad guy though or surely the players wouldn't play for him the way they do and they especially wouldn't follow him around to different clubs, maybe there are 2 Derek Adams the one that the players see and the one that the public/media see.
