Video on the Morecambe FC app showing an interview with Wes McDonald being announced as a new signing. Ex Walsall.

I think Steve Robinson will get the best out of Wes. Picking the bones out of Walsall's fans comments about him, he is an exciting attacking player who has both the ability to score and chips in with plenty of assists.
Looking forward to seeing him play.
UTS.

Another quick and direct winger who, on his day, can absolutely tear it up.
Like Gnahoua, a bit of a lack of consistency seems to be his downfall at times. Two players with somewhat similar styles (pacy, direct, skilful and like to take on their man) that SR is giving a chance to and will hopefully develop.
SR looks like he has a clear idea of what kind of players he wants which is very positive in my eyes.

I wondered that too RedAlert. Yeah very happy with the signing, I seem to remember he played well most times against us.

I wonder why Walsall released him?
It seems SR is really backing himself to be able to develop some raw young talent into gems.

I think his reputation is based upon that!

Don't think Walsall released him as such, his contract had run out and he looked at other options. He hopefully sees an EFL1 club as a step up.

https://www.saddlers.co.uk/news/2021/may/club-statement-released--retained-list/“The following players will not be offered a new contract when their current deal expires. The club wishes to place on record our thanks and wishes them all the best for the future:
Wes McDonald” etc etc etc
They don’t explicitly say they released him, however it sounds like they weren’t planning on trying to keep hold of him. Whether this was because of his poor season last term, or (as you say) both parties had already agreed their futures didn’t lie together, we’ll never know.

On the BBC it sounded like they had already decided he was moving on he hadn't been offered a new deal but he hadn't been released:-
They have opted not to give new deals to defenders James Clarke, Callum Cockerill-Mollett and Cameron Norman.
Strikers Caolan Lavery, Josh Gordon and midfielders Wes McDonald, Jack Nolan and Stuart Sinclair will also leave.

got a feeling with the type of players SR is signing we could be going with a 4-3-3 system like he did at Motherwell.
