According to this
https://the72.co.uk/256466/bolton-wande ... -stockton/Who knows? Probably nonsense but if he were to go, which *available* striker (i.e. within realistic budget and actually likely to come) would people go for to replace him (if that is in fact possible)?

I'm sure there will be more than just Bolton thinking about a bid but think it will have to be good to succeed.

Let's hope any bids for Cole match our expectations. Anything less than £1million would in my opinion be an insult to both the player and the club. Bids circa £1.5million as a minimum should be the starting block.
A move to another EFL1 club would only see his salary increase NOT any ambition to play at a higher level.
I hope our BoD play hard ball with any bidder, using the Accy attitude of rejecting an offer over £1million for one of their strikers as an example of not accepting any bid just for financial reasons.
I'd like to think that Cole is still with us until the summer and that he looks back at previous moves and realises that MFC are the only club where he has been successful......
Bolton's fans seem divided on whether he'd be what they need and question if a player who is 27 fits their policy of 'younger' players. Some reckon they would be better going for somebody younger and potentially cheaper.

I agree I hope the board don't panic and say but we would get less in Summer for him.
We've already seen what loosing Sam has done to us loosing Cole would in Jan would be a disaster.
Bolton were looking at him in the summer apparently it would be quite funny if they could have got him for free and then ended up paying a big fee although I think he will end up somewhere bigger than Bolton.

Jonathan Obika?

The more I think about it, the more resigned I am to him leaving. He might do alright at Barnsley, for the sake of an example, and who could begrudge him a shot at the higher level or a club in L1 with promotion aspirations? He'll obviously command a fee and a potentially significant wage increase so again, who could blame him? If he is out for six weeks, as was suggested elsewhere, that would see him safely into the window.
My 3 minutes of internet research suggests Oli Shaw of Kilmarnock as a possibility, given the manager's Scottish connections but I'm really flying a kite there because I have no clue about their wage structure or his contract status, etc. In any case I suspect there would be competition. Keith's suggestion of Jonathan Obika may be the winner then!

We'll probably be looking to just scrape survival as things stand, if we lose Cole in January then I fear we may not have enough quality to stay up. We've barely seen anything of Obika so there is potential he could be the answer or if the funds are reinvested wisely in January maybe that could help.

Cole will hopefully be fit for Buxton. Obika is back in full training and could be ready soon too!

Didn't the Trotters offer him a deal in the summer, but he chose to sign for us instead? Can't see him going there. If Wigan, who have financial backing again and look to be Championship bound, came in for him then we might struggle to keep hold of him. £1m is the absolute bare minimum IMO - but the price keeps going up the more he scores.
28 in March - and in his prime. Hopefully we can keep him until the summer, and we can get Obika up to speed quickly. Do not be surprised if we have an option on Cole to extend his current contract beyond 2023 - we've been great at negotiating these recently, and even better at keeping them hush hush.

Getting Cole to sign a 2 year deal in the summer has turned out to be the best business they have done since signing Twissy!
A striker bang on form has to be worth over a mill and I dont think anybody would begrudge him a big move in January. Bolton fans are Lancashire's version of Bradford fans.
