Cole to stay?

Those watching the game at the club noticed that when Cole scored his goal that he patted the club badge on his shirt and then pointed to the ground.
Could be wishful thinking on our part but some wondered if that was a sign suggesting that he has no intention of moving in the transfer window and is enjoying his football after a number of seasons searching for a footballing home.

I would love it to mean he's staying!
However, I think that's unfortunately reading too much into it.
I think it's a macho kind of 'I own this place' because he has basically been owning a lot of pitches this season!

He's been pointing at the grounsd a lot this season when he scores.

He’s not simply pointing down at the right boot is he?

Football is a relatively short career and no one can blame players for trying to maximise their earnings while they still can. Cole was superb in our promotion season and has gone into overdrive this season making him one of the hottest properties around. I have no doubt that if someone makes the club and him an offer they can't refuse, either in January or next summer, he'll be off and who can blame him? Loyalty doesn't come into it.
As well as the goals he has so much more to his game. He gives defenders a nightmare with his strength and hold up play and also puts a shift in in defence when needed. He hardly trained all week but was back in defence several times yesterday making key headers taking the ball away from danger. He must have been blowing out of his a**e near the end which could explain why he didn't bury those chances which he normally scores for fun.
You never know though if the balls are pulled out of the bag in the right order for round 3 we may be in a position to offer him an improved extended contract from the proceeds.
UTS!

I love how Cole hits the badge after he scores and the way he seems to get this football club. The simple fact is that unless you are a top 2 or 3 PL club, every player has a price. I expect that a host of clubs will come in for Cole in the window and it is up to the club to get the very best price for him and then to back Robbo with funds.

MFC need to keep Cole this season L1 is at stake, next summer is the time to cash in on him when we’re safe and have more time to build a team for the following season hopefully in L1.

Obviously we will be stronger with Cole but my point still stands and that is that everybody has a price. If a club comes in with an offer of 1mill+, the club will have to accept. We aren't Citeh or Chelski. The important thing is that the club invests some of the money in to improving the squad with better players.
A good cup draw could have an impact on the clubs stance though.

100%
If he is worth £1m now, but
only £750k in the summer, why would we sell now? That £250k could be the difference between staying up or going down. As long as he stays fit he will still be worth a great deal in Summer.
It would need to be a ridiculous amount to prise him away for me.

He would be worth a lot less come the summer as he is entering the final 12 months of his contract. Can Morecambe FC afford to lose 250k+ just like that? I get what you are saying about Cole being important, any numpty can see that but the club is a business which needs to be self sufficient.

I suppose this numpty is wondering "What would be the cost if we went down?". Is it worth cashing in if we ultimately get relegated?

If the club cash then they have to give Robbo some of it to spend. We could lose Cole but bring in 3 or 4 players that make us a better team. It was the same situation with Carlos and Sam and James explained why these deals happened in The Vision a few weeks back.

You sure patting the badge he was saying this is coming off and pointing to the ground meant he was signing for Buxton for £2m

He could sign for Lancaster if it was £2m for all I care......

I'd *
EXPECT* Cole to go in January.
I'd *
LOVE IT* if Cole stayed with us until the end of the season.
I hope/suspect that the great thing about selling Carlos & Sam, is we're not now financially struggling, so is teams come to us with bargain-basement offers, we can tell them to bugger off, unlike a few seasons back, when we had no choice but to accept any cash donation for a player.
But if a Championship club come in with a serious offer...

Cole is destined for a bigger club in a higher league. However, I think he's settled with us a clearly we have been good for him. If he and the club want him to stay until the summer it's probably best for all. My worry is that if either want a move sooner, we could lose him in January.

It will really have to be a massive transfer fee now to prize him away after that FA cup draw. Good pay day for the club! Should give us a fair bit of financial security.

Just imagine being able to say 'I scored a hatrick against Spurs in Morecambe's famous 3-0 win'

The cup draw now means we can keep Cole till at least end of season
How are the gate receipts split
Probably get 30.000 for this game with tickets starting at a minimum of £30 so that is 900k
I would be disappointed if we don’t make at least 250k from this game

Always thought its was 40% each and 20% to fa but might be wrong.
You would hope spurs would just donate their 40% to us.

I think you are right about 40/40/20
I don't think Daniel Levy will donate their share to us but its a lovely thought.
