Joins on loan from Burnley U23s.
Not too sure what to think, didn't look great last season in a poor Scunthorpe side. Hopefully he proves to be better than what we've got at the moment!

Hardly the experienced CB that we need, I hope this isn't the only CB we sign.

Be interesting to hear Seaside Claret's opinion on Jacob.
He is 22 and has played quite a few EFL games

I think his signing at Burnley was a surprise to those with an interest in the u’23’s. Most of the signings over the last 3/4 years have been 18/19 year olds, not a 21 year old league two player with about 40 appearances. Although the Clarets have been desperately short of bodies for the 1st team bench this season, he hasn’t been under consideration, and even in the league cup he didn’t make it. He has been in the under 23’s for most games, and has been playing on the right hand side of the two central defenders. The left sided player is Bobby Thomas, who has been on the bench for the first team, and I am led to believe was of interest to Morecambe, but it appears he’s not going on loan as he is not far away from being first team cover if either Tarkowski or Mee leave in this window. It has to be said he most likely won’t be the experienced central defender that most fans were hoping for

Seems to have been a target of SR's in the summer. Potentially doesn't have the experience we were hoping for but seems like we've been keen to sign him for some time so must have something about him.

Sounds like he has potential but I don't think he will be the impact player we are all looking for in defence. Let's see

Curious, have we found extra money from somewhere, or is some one going out to make way ?

Since the last transfer window we’ve sold Lavelle, got money from the Buxton TV game and have a healthy sum about to come from the Spurs game. McPake has been sent back to Rangers which will undoubtedly free up some funds.
If the owners want to keep the club in League One, they’ll put the money in.

Hopefully the new signings guru (Martin Foyle is it) has had some input into this. Hopefully watched him playing for Burnley U23's.

Time will tell if SR's assessment of Jacob proves to be accurate.
Certainly not the experienced player so many on here feel we desperately need but we'll see...

Managed to have a little bit of a watch of him. Big lad, lovely weight of pass but not afraid to smack it into row Z, did well in a couple of aerial duels (although it was only U23s football). Seemed up for getting stuck in a bit - that spell with Scunthorpe will probably have helped prepare him in that way.
Quite highly rated it seems by a few people, but also a little bit of an unknown quantity. Hopefully to be successful!

You've been watching Morecambe for a lot of years. Have you ever known a new manager appointed, who needed to sign about 18 players in around three weeks?
Yes, I'm more than happy to trust him and the rest of his backroom staff to sign players, now there is less of a rush.

It’s like banging your head against a brick wall with these sort of comments isn’t it Keith. Every day someone new is blaming Robbo’s recruitment.

I agree John, but it's not that long ago you were the negative one on here, so now you know what it's like
No offence intended and glad to see you back in the mix. Happy New Year and lets look forward to the ride, plenty of bumps on the way

Interesting Pompey wanted Jacob, but what about the rumours over 'Carl' Stockton

Given the fact our form has been poor of late, it’s not surprising that fans are questioning the signings.
Of 19 signed, we haven’t really had chance to see Obika until recently, and Duffus has been out injured almost as long so I don’t think it’s fair to judge either just yet.
Harrison also has suffered from a broken toe then a pull, so hasn’t had chance to impress.
McPake looked good but a long term ankle injury has hampered him, but from what I can glean, he hasn’t been applying himself and was our highest paid loan player by some margin, so releasing him frees up money for others, so he was a negative signing.
Ryan Mac, Ockers and Shane Mac have all been positive for me, steady pros who can all compete and do a job at this level. Same with Greg at left back, no question about him either surely? Cooney is a belting signing, and getting Adam back, even though he lost form, he has started to adapt to what Robbo wants from him and the signs were there v Crewe that he is returning to some form.
Scott W was signed as cover for when Sam left, and started off ok, stays on his feet and doesn’t dive in but perhaps too similar to Ockers for me, so he’s a negative.
Delaney should be unbeatable in the air given his height advantage but has proved a ball watcher sometimes and as at Oxford, this has lead to goals, but he is young, so perhaps expecting him to be the finished article along with Jacob Mensah is too much? So we have to lose one at least!
Of the loans, Alfie and Callum have proved to be very gifted but lack experience which has shown at times but cannot fault their enthusiasm, so both keepers for me.
Jokull has the makings of a great keeper but lacks confidence to claim crosses sometimes and his kicking could use some work, so the jury is still out, if he was our back up keeper, that would be fine.
The areas we hoped we would be strong in, wide men, have been the most problematic, with McPake, Wes and Arthur, we hoped for an embarrassment of riches but we’re left without the riches sadly.
All three not up to League 1 for me, shame as Arthur tries hard but it appears he can’t think and do quickly enough.
My opinion-
8 good signings Ryan, Ockers, Shane, Greg, Ryan C, loans for Adam, Callum, Alfie have been a success.
6 yet to be judged - Jury still out on Jon Obika, Courtney and possibly Jok because of his age. Jonah has something but struggles for consistency. He was pants at Sunderland, average at Pompey, but against Crewe and Donny, he worked hard and was a constant threat, just needs to work on passing or dribbling at the right time for me, that can be coached. Jacob Mensah has looked composed in the tinpot cups but is obviously one for the future?
5 Negatives have been Scott W, Delaney, McPake, Wes, Arthur, sadly.
So Bedeau coming in could be the start of a few more coming and a few more leaving. Hopefully a wide man???
If you are being uncharitable, Courtney, Shayon and Jacob M have failed to make their mark so get rid, which would still make it pretty even on successes and failures, out of 19, that’s a pretty decent hit rate??

Considering the incredibly short turnaround time in which SR and the coaching staff had to assemble a team, I'd say that's a pretty decent hit rate.
They also did a good job in resigning players from the previous season onto new contracts. Stockton the standout of course but I felt securing Cooney when he had an offer on the table from Burnley was an incredible piece of business.

If Portsmouth were after Jacob, Cowley likes strong and powerful centre backs, so that’s heartening.
