New Signings Incoming

Postby CityShrimp » Sat Jan 15, 2022 9:16 pm

(Mentioned in another thread but thought this warranted its own topic...)

SR says in his post-match Wimbledon interview that he has two players lined up to come in - a centre back who is "aggressive in the air" and a midfielder who "isn't easy on the eye but breaks up play" and is similar to Songo.

He also hopes to bring in another attacker before the window closes but it doesn't sound like there's a specific player lined up yet.

Sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully the deals go through.

Sounds like the midfielder Kieren Green rumour is true.

From 3.20 in the above post match interview with Quinny....

Could be Green or Gogic but could also be Ricki Lamie from Motherwell..... :?: ;)

Gogic

Just seen an interview he did when signing for hibs, described himself a player who breaks up attacks and starts our own attacks

Sounds like who SR was on about

Opinion is mixed about Gogic on the Motherwell Fans Forum.

Some say he's good others say he's awful and has periods in games when he makes costly mistakes.

In general they can't see him becoming one of theirs as they already have players offering the same ability in their current squad.

Might be wrong but I think players have to be registered at least 24 / 36 hrs before a game

Sure someone on here will know better than me

IF it is the Halifax lad, they are top of the conference, and will want to hang on to their prize assets, so I suspect we will have to cough up a sizeable sum??
If it’s Gogic, maybe a smaller sum as he is out of contract at the end of the season!

I was interested by Robbo's post match comments - the way he described the CDM we're close to signing was more in line with what information I've been able to gather on Gogic rather than Green. That said, what I've been able to gather about both players (especially Green) is somewhat limited, so we'll have to see how things develop this week.

Agreed that Gogic would probably be the cheaper signing - Hibs seem very happy to let him go to free up some funds.

With regard to registrtrations, although there are a few exceptions, in registering a new contract player it has to be by 12.00 on the day previous to the fixture if I my interpretation of the updated regulations is correct

Maybe we're keeping the signing under wraps until the last minute to put a dent in Wigan's preparation.

According to Robbos interview earlier he’s hoping for new signings this week but doubtful before the Wigan game

Assuming it's the quote from the interview that went up on YouTube it'd be a surprise if it was Lamie since his point was that "the two signings that hopefully we'll get over the line this week we've tracked for almost a year and I've worked with one of them before."

Given a year ago Robinson had not long resigned from Motherwell where Lamie was part of his squad it seems unlikely he'd be tracking him. Fwiw he was a poor signing in general for Robinson and cost him points and games through avoidable mistakes.

It's only since Alexander came in that Lamie has turned into a serviceable Scottish Premiership CB and in fairness he's had an excellent 2021.

Not saying it's not Lamie but it could be someone from his previous Motherwell squads (there are a lot of those), someone he had at Oldham or even someone he'd worked with through the NI age groups.

Ousmane Fane is the new midfield 'enforcer' who has worked with Stephen Robinson previously. He'd been playing in Malaysia before returning to the UK. One down, two more to go?

So how did that work out then?

Robbo said this morning that we have missed out on one of the targets and the other one is stalling

Looks like same old same old for the Wycombe game then

Let's hope that our current injured strikers make a speedy return and those like Ayunga can contribute to our goals tally and not have to rely on Cole who needs help as he surely can't keep up his cyrrent form for the rest of the season.
