Some of us thought it would be a dip in away fans being a Tuesday, should be 5000+

Amazing , they once took 15 (fifteen) to White Hart Lane when in the Premier League admittedly it was a midweek match.

Not that I doubt you - but have you got proof of that? That's a remarkable stat if true and that would be incredibly shocking.

Still looking for it. Here is a clip of a game where they took 300 to Tottenham on a Saturday which in the PL is very poor.

Sorry - I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about Wigan taking 15 away fans to spurs.

Was it the game that Wigan won 1.0 ? Booed for taking Defoe off?

Just goes to show that staying or indeed stagnating at a level breeds apathy. Wigan probably had some really decent away followings in their first season in the premier league. Now after a couple of relegations the team are near the top of the table, so a new ground and local derby has got the locals interested again.

Our crowds got progressively worse in L2 but have this season easily doubled. Macclesfield have done the same by being dropped several divisions but now seeing a winning team and a bit of investment. Football fans just need either a bit of excitement or something to believe in.

Thinking about it, was the pic not a wind up as it was taken 15 minutes before kick off?

Yes , Wigan won 0-1 on 3rd November 2012 at White Hart Lane and were relegated but still beat Man City in the FA Cup final. The away attendance was 15 so that photo not a wind up.

Good question that. Going purely from memory I remember playing them 3 times in the FA Trophy quarter finals in the late 70’s. 1-1 at CP, 0-0 in the first replay at Springfield Park and a 0-1 loss at Ewood Park in the second replay.

Can’t remember any other matches against them after that but there may well have been?

Accumulated attendance of roughly 23,000 for the 3 games.

In fact that trilogy of games was 1972-1973 season, the year prior to us winning at Wembley for the first time. Wigan, overwhelming favourites lost easily to Scarborough in the final. Whilst my interest in the F A Trophy is nowhere near as focused as it was when we played in it, the aggregate attendance of those 3 games was ( and imagine still is) a record for the FA Trophy. I seem to recall that Jeff Street broke his leg in one of those games

Ah earlier than I remembered. Got to all 3 games but can’t remember Jeff breaking his leg. Then again can’t remember much apart from Russ Perkins heading an equaliser at CP.

Wigan were the giants of non league back then so playing them in any game was a big deal. Feel sure we must have played them in the NPL after that but memory is a blank on that one.

I have a memory of 'Mad George' being taken off the coach in the Springfield Park car park by the local police. On finally leaving the packed car park we picked him up legging it up the road about half a mile away , claiming he had managed to escape !

I'm sure this was later than 72-73.

We last played Wigan in the league in the 1977/78 Northern Premier League season.

We lost 2-1 at home, then drew 1-1 away.

They finished runners-up that season while we were 21st (not too dissimilar to our current positions)

This was one of the games I looked out for first on the fixture list along with Bolton.it is interesting, I remember them only taking a few hundred to Man City when they were in the pl - their away supper was poor during the pl years. Maybe it was due to the costs but atmosphere tonight will be great.
