Does anyone have Leighton James' managerial record to hand? I know he was only with us for five months before being sacked. I'm wondering how far back we need to go to find a less successful Morecambe manager?
Played 32
Won 7
Drew 9
Lost 16.
Win rate 21.8
Draw rate 28.1
Loss rate 50%
And yet, ironically, the only manager we've received compensation for?

Leighton James
19 league games
7 wins
3 draws
9 defeats,
Lancashire Junior Cup, beat Southport in final
5 games
4 wins
1 draw
FA Trophy
4 games
3 wins
1 defeat, at Guiseley
Whilst not defending Stephen Robinson’s record, it may be worth balancing that his was in League 2, Leighton James was during our time in the old Northern Premier League - today’s position is a million miles away from 1994!!

I think a bit of balance is required here. Leighton James took over a successful NPL team where the remit was promotion. Robbo took over for our first season in the third tier where the remit was survival. He wasn't a disaster but also wasn't the messiah others made him out to be either. He was never interested in the club but as an unemployed manager, beggars couldn't be choosers.

No - Derek had a year left on his contract, but also had a clause in it which Bradford activated and paid to secure his services. I suspect the same thing has happened with Robbo, otherwise I do not now why the club would have accepted St Mirren's request given the timing of the whole situation.

Hi
Justin Jackson was signed during Jim Harvey’s time at the club however, it was George Norrie who was instrumental in getting him to come to Christie Park, as he was on Jim’s coaching staff at that time. Although would agree that Justin was one of our best ever signings, both financially and with the goals he scored. Fairly sure George took him upto Dundee, from where he went to Ayr United, and scored quite a few goals.
He then came back to England and had a couple of games for our reserves then went to Ilkeston Town, whose manger at the time if my recollection is correct was Keith Alexander, who sadly is no longer with us.

Jamie McGowan was a George Norrie signing wasn't he?

Jamie McGown was a few years previous to that and came to Morecambe and played in the reserves, when as you correctly say George Norrie was in charge of the Lancashire League team ( it was interesting watching George run up and down the touch line screaming abuse at the match officials) Jamie got into the 1st team under Bryan Griffith and played about 30 games in 1990-1991 and 1991-92. He played in the 1st leg of the NPL Presidents Cup against Stalybridge Celtic and he was up against the rather large Chris Camden (Morecambe won 3-2 on aggregate). He was a non contract player, and left at the end of the season when GN had got him trials at Dundee. I believe, that Dundee, whilst under no obligation to, gave the club a£1000.00 for his signature
