Ken Ormrod RIP

Sad to read the news that Ken Ormrod has died. For many years, Ken was the club secretary.
He really was an unsung hero of our club.
Back in the early 1980's, I doubt if Ken ever saw the first half of a game. I used to do one of the turnstiles. When I closed the turnstile on Lancaster Road, usually about 15 minutes after kick off, and took the cash to the office, Ken would be cashing up and creating the players' pay-packets. Frequently, he had to raid the fruit machine in the bar to get enough money together. I've often wondered if the players received wages in fifty-pence pieces?
He'd then be back at Christie Park on Sunday to wash the players' kit.
That was on top of being the actual club secretary, with the duties that went with it.
A lovely bloke, who quietly and unassumingly kept Morecambe FC going during a period when it was on life-support. Without Ken, I don't think it is an exaggeration to say, we wouldn't have survived. Morecambe FC have had a few true heroes over the decades. Ken is right up with the best, even if many people didn't know him. I know he'd been unwell for many years, but still used to attend games whenever he could.
Condolences to Teresa and Ken's family.
