Now the dust has settled a little on what was ultimately a great campaign, what has been better - getting into L1 or managing to stay there?

Agree.....100% ....staying up BUT this coming season which will be our second in EFL1 will be even more difficult as the second season always is for recently promoted clubs.
Continue to punch above our weight BUT a lot will hinge on if players like Cole and Aaron stay.

I find it quite hard to compare them - promotion was sealed with a couple of big release moments with the Carlos penalty and full time whistle at Wembley, whereas safety was very likely going into the last day and confirmed via Flashscores/Sky Sports app etc. It was a bit more gradual with other results coming in over the last couple of week as well, eg Lee Gregory's heroics against Fleetwood on the Tuesday.
That said, the feeling at full time against Charlton was absolutely incredible. Looking back, that was the big moment 'staying up' moment for me.
I also think they both tie in quite nicely. Staying up for another season has kind of retrospectively increased the joy of promotion.

Yes we successfully completed a bigger challenge of staying up. We would have been relegated a few times in L2 with 4 relegation slots

I assume that the 4 relegation places in League 1 (and 4 promotion places in League 2) were formed when Division 3 North and South (with 2 promotion places each) where absorbed. Isn't it time we fell into line with the leagues above us? Especially as we are now in League 1.

Has to be staying up for me, achieving our highest EVER league position. I also agree that the Charlton game was a pivotal moment.

Looking at the standard of football staying up was an even better achievement. However the Wembley win was fantastic

I think staying up next year would be even bigger I am really struggling to see who will be the week links.
Hopefully Cheltenham and Cambridge might have second season syndrome, Fleetwood maybe but can't see anyone been as poor as Crewe, Donny and Wimbledon were this year.
I think with good team spirit and a good run anyone can get out of league 2 whatever size of club so I would saying up was bigger.

Getting promotion to the football league in 2007 beats both in my opinion !!!!
The National League is getting much much tougher and i think we got out of it just at the right time
Next season you will have the likes of Grimsby, Notts County, York City just to name a few (also Wrexham have found it very difficult to get back into the league - 14 / 15 years now and counting)

In terms of importance.....
Wembley 2007 was the best footballing day of my life for sure and the most important and historic for Morecambe F.C.
Promotion to The Conference 2nd
Staying up at Coventry 3rd
Wembley 2021 4th
Staying up this year 5th

Staying up has to be the bigger achievement..
League 2 was a poor league (thought your mob were better than most and we stole promotion from you)
This season the league has been tough, we lost our way before Christmas re-focused but too late for the play offs, next season is going to be harder with the teams joining us.
Nice to see Sunderland promoted, they took a beating at our place sacked the Manager and replace him and never looked back. Enjoyed going to their place.
