See the ows for details.
Sounds as though it is the end of the road for O'Connor.

Tbf, DA can hardly make Ockers captain when he isn’t fully fit after an operation and he’s not ready to start?
If Delaney at centre back is the answer, I’ve no idea what the question is!

Look at the squad numbers I don't think Ockers does have a chance.
Shame Wildig had already sold his house by the time Derek came back he would have been captain this year, I believe the change in captaincy last year is what kept us up.
I'm not sure Gibbo in Midfield is the answer I would rather see him play CB instead of Delaney.

I’d rather see Gibbo left back than Max initially tbf.

Delaney is a conundrum - but lets give him a chance. Given the squad number he has been assigned, it looks like he has worked his way back into Dereks plans for the short term at least..... he's no longer part of the bomb squad (numbers 20 to 24)! That's good enough for me - and should be for every other fan.
I'm sure Ryan was as disappointed as everyone else with his performances last season and his inability to make an impact either whilst here or out on loan - but maybe Shithouse Robinson overcomplicated things for him? He looked completely lost and in two minds a lot of the time (should I bring the ball down, or clear it?). Perhaps Derek's 'uncomplicated' (aka common sense approach in not asking people to do what they are unable to) system will suit him.... Derek seemed to get a lot out of Rhys Bennett last season, who is perhaps the most limited player I have ever seen with ball to feet. He also never got the opportunity to play with a half decent keeper or non-pillow/cushion hands stopper behind him.
On the face of it, Ryan has the physical attributes to do better.... and was a promising player before he arrived at Morecambe.... so much so that Bolton wanted to keep him, but he took up the offer of a longer contract here instead. He also played at this level before with Rochdale.... so there must be something there, its just that we have not seen it yet.
Put simply, I want the defenders to defend... clearing the danger as effectively as possible and/or give the ball to our creative players quickly.... Not everyone has to play like Manchester City or Liverpool in League One! Lets see if he can do that when called upon, without a preconceived ideas - everyone has a fresh slate in my eyes.... which I know sounds rich coming from me the amount I rag into TGI (training ground international) Wes McDonald.... but I've seen him in preseason and he is still utterly shite!
