Wed don't want him, but numerous Championship & Premier League clubs did?

Apparently he signed yesterday. Hope it is a significant fee and we've now got cash to spend elsewhere.

Definitely one for the future. At this point in time probably a good move for us and Connor. Hope we got a decent deal out of it.

Hope Connor progresses into an excellent Championship player in due course.

Always thought he was destined to move to a bigger club one day.

Just hope that we got some money for him that DA can use to fund at least one extra player.

Had forgotten that it was under Judas that he signed his first pro contract in January 2022.

We're in a tricky situation atm - need to stabilise and establish ourselves as a league one club, and also develop academy players as saleable assets to sustain that and help us progress further. Short term vs long term.

Based on what Derek said in the press, Connor is not near our first team currently. If the article is true, the reporting indicates that he is not near Sunderlands either - but they see him as having potential to develop. Can we carry potential, when we have limited resources atm and a first team lacking in quality? Can we afford not to promote our own academy players for the long-term development of the club? I don't think its an issue of Derek being unable to develop players or giving young lads a go - he gave Carlos a chance when he was not favoured under Jimbo, and potentially drifting out of the game.

If we can stay up this season, we should be in a much better position next season IMO - when everyone on the books is somebody that the manager sees as value for money, and who can contribute to the team. For now - if we can get money for somebody that is unlikely to play, and/or a decent sell-on.... then I think this is in the best interests of the club and the player. Hopefully that is not always the case; we don't want to see our homegrown players plucked from us before they've had an opportunity to make an impact in our own first team.

We're not in a league position where we can risk giving raw youngsters the opportunity to play in league games. If we were mid-table, then fair enough, especially towards the end of the season when we know we're safe from relegation. But when we're hovering around the relegation zone, as we have been for most of the past few years, we simply can't risk untried/inexperienced youngsters when we have rough & ready older/experienced players available who are more likely to "do the job", especially in defensive positions. Don't forget that there were many games last season where a conceded goal would have meant a dropped point (or 2) and if that had only happened once, we'd be back in league 2! That's too much of a risk just to give a young player a run out!

Is it a case of big clubs stockpiling their youth teams

Not suggesting that he was close to the first team, just thought it was odd to transfer list him at a time when so many others saw his potential?

Potential has value and if Derek can move on a lad who has it to a club who can develop it via an U23 side then it is win win. We have to look short term and see out this season as a L1 club despite having a squad made up of players not up to the level. People will use this as something to knock Derek with because he isn't Jim Bentley but I think others will see it as good football management.

Wonder if some of the money we got for Connor has gone towards signing Jacob.

If only we could get rid of a few more then DA would hopefully have a wee bit more to finance another player or two.

Some club somewhere must rate McDonald and O'Connor.....PLEASE :!: :!: :!:

Change the record.

There is a difference letting a bigger club that has been tracking a youngster, coming in and offering a deal, and a player given a first pro-contract, then being TRANSFER LISTED, ie, 'not wanted' a few months later. You don't see the difference?

Derek has never said that Pye was listed due to a lack of ability. He was listed because of the state Robinson left us in with lots of players on 2 year deals taking up the bulk of the budget. Pye has value, Derek knows that and he needs the funds.

It is stay in League 1 at all costs for me but then again, you were happy for us to slide in to non league oblivion weren't you Keith?

I'm sure you can find where I've said that? As you are indeed stuck in the past, what I said, in defence of JB was I wanted to see him have a season with money & without off-field trauma, which I don't believe is something he ever had. Again, you struggle with understanding that concept. Do you really believe that Derek would have remained at a club, where he had to pick dog muck & glass up from the pitch before training could start? Or continued to hold the club together when players & backroom staff weren't getting paid? Perhaps he would. We know Stephen Robinson would have been off like a scalded cat under those circumstances, and I hope we're never back in a position to find out how Derek would react. Jim Bentley should be a hero in the eyes of every Morecambe fan. I find it amazing that this isn't the case.

As for Connor, I still believe that there are other ways to 'alert' bigger clubs that he'd be available, other than saying he isn't wanted. Hopefully he goes, and has a great career.

I don't think Derek has ever said that Connor wasn't wanted but you do have a distorted view of the past.

I don't think it's really fair to assume that DA just said to Pye "you're unwanted" etc. I think it's generally agreed that some of the transfer listed players are good players, just not quite the right fit and we need some funds freeing up.

Ideally, it would have been nice to keep him. I don't buy that we can't use young players in a relegation scrap - DA brought in CMG and Phillips (virtually no experience and a couple of forgettable loan spells) when we were fighting relegation in L2. As long as there's a bit of experience around them, it's fine if they're good enough.

But it sounds like Pye's not quite up for L1 yet. A loan spell would have been nice, but after all the chaos of the past year the priority this season is steadying the ship and freeing up funds to do so. After Stockton, Pye is probably our most valuable asset, and arguably more 'saleable' than Stockton given his age. Also not of immediate importance to the first team.

It's a shame and in a perfect world it would have been nice to keep Pye, but in this situation I reckon it's the right call.

JB had pots of money at AFC Fylde and got them relegated!

Pots of money maybe, but when he went there, the budget was already allocated. But that’s Fylde, run by a twat.Hope they rot in Non league forever.
I can see the logic in getting Bedeau in and letting Pye go, our need is NOW after all. Just hope he can lose a couple more and get some quality in, and while we are it, if Love and Melbourne are better than Cooney and Gibbo?? I hope I’m wrong!

I’ve watched Love play 4 times now, and I can already see that he’s better than Cooney.Cooney was brilliant in our promotion season, but he was really poor last season imo. Love is my 1st choice RB by a long way. Melbourne isn’t looking great, I reckon he’ll be out of the team on Saturday, Gibbo will go back to left back and Jacob will hopefully slot into the back 3.

We all see things differently, that’s the beauty of message boards. I do take the point that Cooney last season wasn’t great, but still feel he has more to offer, particularly going forward. But Melbourne looks like a rabbit in car headlights, that we can agree on!
