Possession vs. Boring vs. Missed chances

Seeing a lot of people saying it was a boring game, we had 26% possession, should’ve taken our chances... You can’t say all three at once. You can’t say it’s boring and then moan that we had plenty of chances and missed them. You can’t say the lack of possession killed us off if you’re saying we missed loads of chances.

Can understand it from new fans who haven’t been around long enough to see the promotion-winning season, but it’s ludicrous from some very long term fans who know full well how Derek plays. And it works. Would be much more worried if we weren’t creating chances as opposed to having low possession. As far as I’m aware, a team has never won a football match because their possession stat was high.

We all see things differently especially on the football field BUT no need for us to fall out about things.

It would appear that I'm very much in the minority as to how I saw the game BUT I'd rather have the football under DA despite at times questioning his methods than that under the previous manager.

Peace.....

Yup. We had more shots on target than Fleetwood, and hit the woodwork. One of our first half chances goes in, and we win that game. I do think we sat too deep in the second half, and as a result, we had no out-ball, leading to it just coming straight back in again, but over-all, I thought it was a good game and tactically, it almost came off.

I would prefer to see a player left up front at corners. Put Connolly (when on the pitch) or Hunter out, so the opposition know that any long clearance, we have someone who may latch on to it, giving them something else to think about. Their corners, if the ball was cleared, it came straight back in.

I enjoyed the game. Great goal from Gnahoua too.

I really enjoyed the match yesterday as well ... My only gripe was i thought Derek might have made subs earlier due to the heat and also to combat the Fleetwood subs but hey ho we didnt lose and we move on to Tuesday at Horwich Amateurs

The trouble is today that fans are exposed to indepth analysis and stats. Throw in some jargon like "pivots" and "XG" and you can start a Twitter page or a podcast and make out you are the next Gary Neville or whoever.

That was a good game yesterday played between two sides that have improved from last season. Taylor is a lovely footballer to watch, as was Paddy Lane for them. The way we competed at the back and the you shall not pass attitude was great to see. We saw two good goals and lots of chances at both ends. The atmosphere was good with noise from both ends and a bit of needle. It isn't for the purist, it never has been and hopefully it never will be.

DA has done some very good interviews where he explains about possession and stats and how he sets up teams working with overloads against teams, but if fans cant be bothered listening..

That's quite a silly thing to say.

On the topic of xG, it's kind of a more accurate way of measuring shots/chances. Not all shots are equal, eg a potshot from 25 yards generally isn't as good a chance as a shot inside the six yard box. Therefore, a shot inside the six yard box is given a higher xG value. There are flaws with the stat, some of the measures can be a bit rudimentary and miss out some of the context of a shot (eg how many people are attempting to block it), but it generally relates to how DA tries to play. Happy to let the opposition have a few more harmless shots from range, then break on them and create high quality chances from those situations.

But don't take my word for it, you should listen to man himself:
