Forest Green Rovers/M6 Closure

Absolute chaos on the roads today, with the M6 southbound closed for the weekend. I came through Caton earlier, thankfully against the flow of stationary traffic. All the way through Crook-o-Lune was solid. Apparently A6 beyond Lancaster was also stood still, with people experiencing a couple of hours to get through a couple of miles.

Goodness knows what time it will be sensible to set off???
Friday???

My understanding is that the M6 will be closed for the next 3 weekends and that a diversion along the A6 will operate.

Maybe those intending to travel should check before setting off for journeys South and return Northbound.

Can I suggest Keith that you make reference to the continuing road closure in the title....so that everybody is aware of what to expect. :?: :?: :?:

You see? Sometimes I agree with you! ;) :D :D

The additional problem yesterday was that, because the M6 was only closed in on direction, it wasn't being picked up by satnavs, so, for example, Google Maps still sent vehicles to the M6 south. Many people spent ten hours on the M6 to do one junction!

In hindsight maybe just as well that the game was called off as away fans would have had a nightmare getting to and from our ground....if at all :?: :?: :?:

The reference to the weekend closure is in the second part of the news item.

I got a Stagecoach bus from Lancaster to Preston yesterday setting off @ 1200. The traffic was clogged back to the Lancaster side of Galgate. Junction 33 looked a mess when the bus crawled round the roundabout at Hampson Green. It was bumper to bumper from then most of the way to Preston, although it flowed albeit slowly. The journey took 2 hours as against 80 minutes, which I suppose wasn't too bad

We're setting off on Thursday instead, no idea how our fans in the minibuses, cars and coaches are going to cope on Saturday morning

Checked with Highways Agency before our journey to Wales who said about 30 mins delay. We passed Junction 34 at 11.45 yesterday and immediately hit traffic. 7 hours later at 18.45 we got to—— Junction 33! Another hour to Preston and then could start journey proper. 12 hours total to do 175 miles. Be warned! Will be giving it a wide berth next Saturday. Information very difficult to find and no warning signs from Junction 35.

You must have been just behind me Jack!

Trying to get to Leyland for an undelivered APC delivery, hit J34 at 11.30am and got off at Galgate
at 6.45pm. At some points we didn't move for about 30 mins.

Chap behind me for about 2 hours got out of his car and walked back up the road.....5 minutes later he returned carrying 2 ice creams complete with flakes! At least someone was making a profit out of the chaos.

No delays northbound, home in 15 mins.

As Jack has mentioned , no warning signs of the delay anywhere. Something on the Bay Gateway with
motorway info would be handy.

What was really stupid were a couple of portable digital displays telling drivers the M6 Southbound was closed between Jcts 33 and 32. Common sense would say they should have been placed maybe North of the Kendal turnoff (giving drivers the option to head South towards Settle instead), or even further North at Penrith. But no, they were on the side of the road at, wait for it, Garstang! So helpfully telling everyone who'd be stuck in traffic for hours crawling South that the M6 was closed - just what's the point of putting advance warning signs within the diversionary route? Madness!

That sounds truly awful. Got to travel south on Saturday so will see about going via Dunsop Bridge and then on the M6 at Leyland

Just had an emergency dash to Preston to rescue my daughter who had somehow locked herself in their utility room. Grand Daughter was a wee bit upset as she was in the house unable to get to Mummy.

That stupid small led sign about road closure was still there BUT did notice that the large gantry led signing just before exit 33 was flashing and appeared not to be working properly.

M6 South and North complete madness with holiday traffic and idiots driving 50mph in middle lane. I used to be a middle lane driver but at least I was doing 70mph....BUT saw the error of my ways and now no longer hog the middle lane.

Repairs put on hold next weekend

https://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk ... l-weekend/

The Club have announced that the coach only had 4 people booked on so it has been cancelled, maybe they haven't heard the news yet.

Cheaper to send them in a taxi :?

The club don't advertise the away travel as much as the Trust did ie posters around the ground showing which games they were running coaches to. The club only made coach travel to FGR available this morning, and cancelled this afternoon. I was going to call into the club tomorrow to buy match and coach tickets, this won't now be happening. Why does the club always book 52 seaters, would it not make sense to book smaller coaches ie like 30 seaters for games like FGR

Great news about the motorway but probably too late for most who probably have other plans.
