https://forum.charltonlife.com/discussi ... nt/4904808Sounds as though they are glad to have got rid of him.
Funny how 2 clubs fans have different views on the same player.

I wonder if there could be a decent chance of getting Sam Lavelle back here next season. Out of favour at Charlton (not sure of his contract situation), a player Derek would presumably fancy and the fact that Burton got him on loan suggests that there aren’t massive clubs after him.

Believe he signed a 3 year deal with Charlton so unlikely to see him back this summer would be my guess. They also bumped his wages up a good bit so would have to take a bit of a reduction in that regard but if there isn't much interest in him elsewhere then it could be a possibility.

Perhaps he's not actually League One standard? The jump from L2 to L1 is huge.
Or, perhaps he's never got back up to the same standard that he was, prior to his injury?

I think it kind of shows much players can thrive and dip in certain environments or team set-ups.
Lavelle is physically very dominant, a beast in the air, great at I guess what you might call 'old fashioned' defending, and is pretty handy with the ball at his feet for that kind of player to get out the odd situation should he need to.
However, if you're wanting a quicker and more mobile defender who can play in a high line and maybe be a bit more expansive with the ball in possession, then he's maybe not the best fit.
He's been signed by a manager in Nigel Adkins, presumably based on the strengths he has and how Adkins saw that fitting well into how he wants to do things, who has then lost his job less than two months later. New managers come in, and none seem to be that keen on him. Performances dip, injury doesn't help either.
I think he'd still be a good fit here under Derek. If a move was at all possible then I'd welcome it.

But if he could give away half a dozen penalties between now and the end of the season, that would be nice!
