R.I.P. J.M. No other football commentator could match him. Absolutely brilliant guy.

Did an interview with him MANY moons ago for the Morecambe fanzine I used to do.

He was a massive Barnet fan.

First commentary he did for Match of the Day was THAT Hereford v Newcastle FA Cup game in 1972.

"Ronnie Radford !!! And now it will take some time to clear the pitch !!!!!!!".

Legendary.

Motty right up there with Kenneth Wolstenholme as great commentators.

Proper commentary without the need to shriek in a hysterical way as so many do these days.

R.I.P. Motty.

He was a pretend Barnet fan, always told everyone that as he didn’t want to be accused of bias when commentating on his real love, Chelsea.
Was taken by his dad in 1952 and was a lifelong Blue, but kept it secret until recently. Had a room full of Chelsea programmes. Barnet was because he started as a cub reporter on Barnet paper, and adopted them to save face when he first got to do MOTD in 1971.
RIP.

RIP Motty. Did he ever do a Morecambe commentary?
