Heat Map & Touches in Game.

In another thread, 'Little Shrimp' linked to a 'heat map' of the Milton Keynes match. It was very interesting, in particular, looking at which players are touching the ball the most and covering the most when on the pitch. Obviously, simply touching the ball is not the same as having a positive impact, but it certainly shows which players are 'most involved'. Other games can be viewed here. Two interesting points from looking at this information. Obviously, as we suspected, we clearly don't touch the ball frequently in the opposition penalty area. But also, for the Love haters, he is always one of, if not actually, the Morecambe player who touches the ball the most.

I am by no means a "Love hater" but I do feel his overall game is not at League 1 level. I agree he works hard and makes a lot of effective runs down the flank and into the penalty area but his final ball negates much of his hard work and his passing is largely wayward and doesn't find his man. Coupling this with his frequent errors in defensive situations that have cost us several games and I think his place in the side is questionable.

Technically solid, physically very good, would comfortably be a good League One player if he got his head on more consistently and eradicated the silly errors. Louis van Gaal gave him a shot at United so he's obviously got ability. Just seems to lose his head and panic a fair amount, or make bad decisions.

Interesting seeing how many touches he's taking - matches the eye test as he does often seem to be involved a good bit in build-up as well as bombing on. I'd like to see a return to the lineup we played against Bolton that stuck Crowley on the right. They've linked up well numerous times (both Love's goals were Crowley assisted). Also means Weir can play as a 10 and get more licence to make those late runs.

Love gets stuck in, yes, but I struggle to look past the number of critical errors he makes.

Look at Liam Gibson for example - he has (I believe) even more touches than Donald Love in that particular game, but you don’t see Gibbo giving a goal away every few games.

But, when Gibbo does make a mistake, people quietly look past them.

For me, Love is not a league one player, always gives 100% but makes too many sloppy mistakes in defence and when he goes forward often gives the ball away too easily. Another player who I never rated as a league one player was O'Connor, once again like Love always gave 100% but often pulled out of position and made too many last ditch challenges because he was not in the right position. Each player has his level so hopefully Love will find his next season in league two. PS, I'm not a Love basher, I just say it as I see it. See you at Barnsley.
