Loan Players

Derek as mentioned in his interview over the weekend that we put in requests to take some loan players on board for the coming season

Hopefully these could include Phillips, Weir and Shaw

Phillips was just coming in to good form before his injury !! (If he had not got that injury i think he would have gone on to get 10 / 15 goals which would have kept us up for sure

Sorry, but you’re in absolute dreamland. Shaw was playing at a level we’d never seen before from a midfielder for most of last season, and Weir’s attacking output was up there with the best in League One.

Phillips got 7 goals and 2 assists from 17 starts so I’d be surprised if he comes back, but he clearly enjoyed his time here and didn’t hit the heights of the other two so there’s a chance at least.

If Derek’s revisiting past loanees then I’d say Austerfield and Watts are the ones he’d be looking at. Although with only 21 senior players Watts may simply be too injury-prone.

Maybe i am in dreamland but the players mentioned might have actually enjoyed playing for Derek last season

Never say never in football !!

Dreamland maybe but any of those mentioned would be excellent. Possibly Weir and Phillips but think Shaw is destined for Championship.

The loan player we got via Harrogate looked useful after settling in and also the striker and full back late on in the season both of which could be good after a full preseason of hard graft.

I was under the impression that Watts and Weir had been released by their clubs and both are now fre agents .

No chance of this happening. I doubt their parent clubs would have them go fron playing L1 to L2.

Yes I’m afraid we’ve no chance of re-signing Phillips, Weir or Shaw.

Even if they loved it here, it’s down to the parent clubs and why would they send their youngsters to play in league 2 when all three players have proven themselves at league 1 level?

But it was ok for Watford (Championship) to send Mckiernan to Eastleigh (National League) last season to get game time

Silly me for even suggesting such an idea but hey ho

Might possibly have a chance with Philips. Dropping a division though makes it less likely. Might end up with L1 youngsters from some of the bigger teams.

Watford released McKiernan.

Shaw and Weir are still at Celtic and Brighton respectively, and excelled in League One.

Jenson Weir is NOT featured in ANY of the Brighton and Hove Albion team profiles according to their web site.

Some confusion as to whether he is still there or available to pursue other opportunities. See the link below to the Brighton news article.

I'm sure DA would love to have him back and will no doubt be making moves to secure his signature IF available and IF Jenson sees the next part of his education in EFL2.

Dependent on the amount of playing minutes Philips got in after his injury last season Huddersfield may let him come to us to get his recovery going slowly and bring his fitness to peak at a lower level.

Only issue I could see with us getting Phillips back would be Huddersfield recalling him to re-loan to a league one team in Jan once he gets his fitness back. Even 6 months of him might be a decent deal if we could pull it off.
