Workington will prove a good test having already played at least 2 pre season games and whilst the result doesn't matter it will be interesting to see how all the new lads get on.

Also interesting also to see if we have anybody else involved that might not have been announced yet, or who might be in the building on trial. The new season certainly seems to have come around quickly this year. Unfortunately I am unable to attend - hopefully we have a decent following.

Scratch that.... our game tomorrow has just been cancelled due to Morecambe being unable to raise a team as per Workington Reds twitter. BNBT.

What a shambles- a Football League club unable to raise a team for a pre-season friendly. We are looking more and more uncertain to retain our place in the league if we can't put a team together so early in the new season.

We've got 14 signed players plus academy, surely everyone knew to be available, should have shown more respect to the host club imo.
Seemingly we have players injured before we've even kicked a ball

In fairness the info on our OWS does say that due to injuries and the risk of making the situation worse that there was no alternative other than to call the game off.
I can imagine the outcry if players got injured during the game so for me the decision is correct.
With regards to having only 14 players actually signed to date that is a reflection of the current finances that are aggravated by the continued saga of the sale of OUR club which yet again there is little news from the BoD which is annoying to say the least.
For example is the current bidder still interested and if not then are other parities in the hunt to take over. They say that 'silence is golden'....not in this case ...'silence is frustrating'.....would be more apt.

We'd better pull our fingers out and sign some more players, so we have a full squad. Why not send half the academy players tomorrow? You'd think it would be the non-League side calling the game off, due to a lack of players, not the other way around

Indeed it shows how paper thin our current squad is. We shouldn't be calling off a game for a few niggles. The fact that the season is under 4 weeks away and we can't field a team is very worrying.

Why not just send the academy team , great experience for them. We seriously need to sign half a dozen players soon, and yes I know it difficult under the financial circumstances we are in, look in the lower leagues.

I believe we've made loan offers - this will presumably account for 4 or 5 of the remaining squad places. Problem being, these players generally arrive late into the pre-season programme with parent clubs assessing their options. We saw this last year with Liam Shaw arriving very late. Its certainly not ideal, the lateness of our squad being assembled last season was one of the major contributing factors in our ultimate relegation last season.... we were very slow starters.

On the website it states a few players have knocks? We've been back training 10 days? And not played a game. What we doing in training for these "knocks" to happen?

Personally, I think it's more likely to be an excuse for the team not having enough time to actually start playing together, so a "proper" match, even a friendly, may not be of any use, especially losing a couple of days of training, etc. It must be really hard for Derek and John to get so many new faces playing together when only 4 or 5 of them have played together previously. Two weeks just isn't long enough.

Not often I agree with you but you're spot on. What have they been doing in training? If Saturday gets cancelled for the same reason. Then we really need start to worry. Think we can all assume we have nobody in on trial either which is worrying.

Rather confirms that none of remaining released players are coming back. I had hopes for Delaney and Ash Hunter but they must be elsewhere unfortunately.

Very worrying times especially with the very tough start we have got in the league
Walsall, Mansfield, Notts County and Bradford in the first 4 games
Might be wrong but i think Ash Hunter might have trialled for Burton last week

I still don't understand why DA has accepted an extended contract after last season unless he has obtained cast iron assurances that he is getting the financial backing he needs.
The season tickets have gone well so there must be some money available to at least get a reasonable team together.

The ‘numerous injuries’ part does bother me a bit.
I think injuries to our squad last season played a bigger part in our relegation than most people acknowledge. Jake Taylor, Ash Hunter, Caleb Watts, Kieran Phillips, Max Melbourne, Ryan Cooney etc all seemed to be out for ages. It was pretty devastating to our small squad and I bet we’d have stayed up with more luck on the injury front.
The players have been back in training for about a week, haven’t kicked a ball yet and already a number of them are unavailable to play with ‘knocks’. Are they made of glass? I honestly think that signing players who are robust with little history of injury should be a major consideration for our remaining transfer business.

He will have accepted the ofter as there probably wasn't anything else. He's probably still on a salary most of us could only dream of and at least he's got a bit of security. He is also able to dictate all football activities with a board that gives him their backing, albeit not financially.

Whatever he's on he has a hell of a task!
