We've just bought a Sony Smart TV but are having problems connecting a BT TV Box and recordable Blu Ray DVD player to the Smart TV.

We're not sure if we need to connect each unit together by an aerial connection leads of will HDMI connection suffice :?:

We assume that we need to connect the BT TV box to the aerial connection to get a signal but it's knowing if we have to connect the DVD to the BT Box and then to the TV by using aerial connection leads IN and OUT

I apologize for my ignorance in such matters.....

Doesn't your BT box work over the internet? I've never seen one, so not sure how they work.
Does your recordable DVD record TV? Does it have a Hard Drive? Could you record 'live TV' on to it?
Do you have a 'Freesat' or 'Freeview box'?
Does your new TV have Freesat or Freeview built in?
Do you have a satellite dish or a traditional, pronged TV aerial?

Ideally, you should have bought a TV with either Freeview (if you have a TV aerial) or Freesat (if you have a satellite dish) built in.

Assuming your BT box doesn't record live TV from another source, and only receives signal from the internet, and the DVD player is only used for playing DVD's and (final assumption!) you have bought a TV with a built in Freeview or Freesat receiver, that matches the receiver that you have then:

Put the aerial/satellite cable directly in to the TV.
Connect the DVD player to TV using an HDMI lead.
Connect the BT receiver to the TV using an HDMI lead.

You should then find live TV automatically, with BT on [HDMI 1] (or whichever number you attached it to) and DVD on [HDMI 2] (or whichever number you attached it to)

If this fails, you probably have an RTFM failure.

Keith, BT vision boxes work both on the internet and with aerial signal, and they do have a record function and a hard drive.
I would suggest using the hard drive on the ahi as BT Vision box as the recorder, as it records in HD if you wish.
So plug the outside aerial into the BT box, then connect the aerial out from the box to the TV aerial. Then connect the BT box to the tv by HDMI, and finally plug the internet into the BT box.
Just using the DVD Blu Ray as a watching device is probably the simplest, connect to the TV with another HDMI port and lead.
Hope that helps.
