Referee assessors

Referee assessors

Postby redrobo » Sat Oct 07, 2023 5:01 pm

Maybe someone can explain exactly what their role is in the follow up of games.... :?: :?: :?:

At every home game this season there has been a referees assessor a certain former referee from Barrow who has attended more home games than any other to date.

Surely it is their duty to report the actions of referees that they assess from a neutral stance BUT it would appear certain referees giving out yellow and red cards like confetti and I wonder if it's a case of referees and assessors being as one in the post match analysis.....in other words it's like a club where one never bad mouths another member of the club...

Wonder if they have a secret hand shake....

We spoke to an assessor at one of our home games last season and he was honest enough to admit that the quality of the officiating wasn't what it should be. But didn't say how this issue could be resolved.

The usual pre match huddle of the referee and his assistants in the upstairs bar area was joined by the referee's assessor and his wife.

It was kisses and cuddles all round and it was obvious that the referee and his assistants knew both the assessor and his wife on very familiar terms which for me begs the question 'how can a referees assessor have a totally impartial view of the referees performance when they are so closely linked.'
