What's everyone's memories from Barrow Derby games?
My favourite was the early 90s when Ollie had a last minute winner at Holker St.

Forgotten about that one till you mentioned it.I think that was my last visit to Barrow and it was a great night. No segregation back then so we had Barra fans in with us.They we’re a grumpy bunch that night. Not sure how many times we’ve played them since but generally speaking results seem to have gone our way against them. Hope it continues on Tuesday!

Not a favourite Barrow game from the past but a 4-1 defeat at Holker Street and Morecambe's Manager (although not for much longer after this !) was Eric Whalley who was later to own Accrington Stanley !

Can only remember playing them once. I think it was the season after the North stand was completed and we beat them at home. Tasty atmosphere and a big crowd of about 3000. I think we lost the away match soon after. I can't remember playing them again so they must have been one season conference wanderers

The boxing day game the season we got promoted from the Northern Prem
We scored in the first few minutes and then the heavens opened. Would have been abandoned in today's football.

In all honesty their story and promotion to the Football League is an underrated fairy story, especially to then maintain their position and be competitive as they have done. We all now how difficult it is to get out of the NL, and with the greatest respects they are not a 'fashionable' club.
I have seen them a few times over the last few years when I was living in Cumbria. A nice traditional ground, good atmosphere and good facilities. The next team I want I do well after Morecambe in this league!

As Hodgy mentioned, 1993/94 away at Holker Street. Deep, deep, deep into injury time and from a corner up jumps Ollie Parillon literally sky high to head home a winner.
My first ever away game was at Barrow on Boxing Day 1987. A crowd of 2272 and a 0-0 draw. Not many Morecambe fans there as I recall and I sat with Dave Slater in the Main Stand. Belting atmosphere.
1988/89 season....... 2 defeats at Holker Street. FA Cup replay getting walloped 5-1 and then a few weeks later in the league we lost 3-1.

Wasn't that just after Joe Woj had taken all our decent players to Colne Dynamoes

Yes, it was mate.
We played Barrow 5 times that 1988/89 season.
Twice in the league, FA Cup at home (Saturday lunchtime) and then the replay.
And then in the Lancashire ATS Challenge Trophy at home where we lost 2-4.

The game I remember most was in 1974 at Home.
We shot into a 2 goal lead early on and finished with a third towards the end.
Unfortunately, Barrow had scored seven in the intervening period.

Remember in the early 90s we averaged 400. The Barrow fixture though always bought a four figure crowd

FA Trophy game at home in the 1987/88 season.
The very first time I ever saw crowd trouble and rival fans fighting at Christie Park.
Into the first half and Morecambe fans are congregated at the Christie Avenue end we are playing towards. A group of late arrivals enter the opposite (then open terraced school end) terrace. A shout goes up from a Morecambe fan at our Christie Avenue end - from someone who shall remain nameless but I can distinctly hear it being shouted now (not that it would have been heard on the opposite side of the ground anyway...) - "don't just stand there get 'em now yer soft b@$t@rd$" - and they did.
All hell broke loose and was over as quick as it had started thankfully but it wasn't a good sight.
We lost, 2-4.

I think there was some trouble at a Lancaster v Barrow game , maybe in the County Hotel that used to be next to Castle Railway Station.
We seemed to suffer when Colin Cowperthwaite played for them. It's a pity Morecambe didn't sign him from Netherfield instead of Barrow. Was it his brother Terry that played for Morecambe in the 80s ?
