Jesus what an awful appointment. How could the board see anything in that display on Saturday that convinced them Ged was the man for the job. Hopefully we have enough points on the board to avoid relegation.

18 months contract is interesting.
Let's see how things go now he's the boss. Get some contracts sorted ASAP (JJ!) and convince Burnley that Mellon's development is best served by staying here in January.

I'd hope the board were looking beyond Saturday! It's going forwards, and developing the club that matters. Developing young lads, so we have home-grown talent breaking through to the first team.
Ben Tozer & Paul Mullen both dropped from League One to non-League for a pay-rise at Wrexham. Between those two, they are probably paid more than our entire first team. Put Wrexham behind us and move on to tomorrow.

Maybe Ged is just holding the Fort until John Coleman is out of contract in the summer having worked under him?

I'll get behind him and I'm desperate to be proven wrong on this but it does feel like a very uninspired appointment. 18 months is also surprising, until the end of the season would feel more appropriate considering how unproven he is.

No problem with this appointment although I wonder who else was in consideration for the role.
Maybe Dave Artell wasn't interested or the BoDs could meet his salary expectations. We'll never know.
He has been appointed the new Grimsby manager having turned down an offer from another EFL2 club last week.....
Welcome and at least there is a bit of continuity with this appointment.

I agree you can’t judge the new manager against a team like Wrexham but there were some worrying signs. We didn’t look as organised on Saturday as we did under DA and the team selected without a strong defensive midfielder like Songo seemed to play into Wrexham’s hands. We seemed very naive, underprepared and unclear how Wrexham would play.

We have to get behind Ged and the team.
I suspect the ownership uncertainty has removed the calibre of management applicants that we could expect if we had stable ownership. I think Derek realised that there is no imminent ending of Bond Groups' ownership of the club , hence his decision to return to Ross County.

I know everyone will get behind him on Tues night but what kind of reception will be actually get. Unless he didn't apply I'm surprised John Mc. didn't get the job.

Doubt it, he is holding the fort till May 2025.
Good luck to him, real pressure on for tomorrow night to turn it around

I too will get behind him and the team but it does seem a cheap way of replacing the manager.. I was under the impression there had been lots of applications..

I don't think John Mc would have applied as I don't think he'd be interested in the manager's job. He's always seemed happier in the coaching side of things on the pitch than the management and the off the pitch work like sourcing and signing players etc.
I do wonder if Ged had already been lined up for the manager's job when he came in as head coach and professional development coach. Perhaps the club was aware Derek would be leaving sooner or later and had already identified Ged as a potential replacement?

John McMahon is 60 in April. It could be a clause in Ged.B's contract that the club will look at his performance at the end of the season and possibly giving him the assistant job under the likes of Coleman, giving John Mc. early retirement on a very good pension. Or would that be classed as sacking Ged.B.

We need to get behind Ged. Lets face it, he's probably the best man for the job given our current predicament. He will be on a lot less than Derek or any other experienced manager who might have been interested.
With no money from the owner, we have the real risk of missing payroll and a points deduction if this happens. The club will have seen this as mitigating the risk, with less money going out to the management team through employing a coach as manager.
Really, Derek was a bit of a one-off for us. An out of work manager first time round, looking to re establish himself in the EFL. Second time round, he would have been on a better wage but Robbo's compensation will have covered a large chunk of his wages. We couldn't currently afford to pay for a similar calibre of manager, so back to taking a chance on someone from around the club, like Bentley.

Strange that the club would wait until after a 6-0 pumping to announce Ged. Good luck to him, but it seems rushed to me - why not see how he gets on in the next 3-4 games and take your time? Unless he was wanted by another club - which given his lack of experience as a first team manager would be obscure to say the least.
Interestingly Dave Artell (who I don't think would have been a good fit) has been announced at Grimsby today - and has said he turned down another club (perhaps us?). Asked why he opted for the Mariners he said "There is a plan"... an inference that perhaps there isnt a plan at the other club (which definitely sounds like us!).

I think it’s a good call for two reasons, first of all financial, it may save the club some money no need to bring in an assistant. Second he knows the players, staff and club. What he needs to do, do it his way! make the changes he needs to make. I think he will deviate away from DA’s style and set up differently. Then he rises or falls on the back of results.

It's impossible to have a plan until there is new , proper ownership.
My worry is that if results pick up Jason may think he will wait and see if we get promoted as the value of the club will go up. I would be very happy with a mid-table position but we can't afford many days like Saturday for that to happen !

I've no problems with this appointment as listening to DA's first interview at Grimsby it's obvious what they had to offer was more attractive than what we could and some will argue should have been prepared to offer non more so than the 30 month contract he has accepted.
DA will no doubt have to move nearer than his current home in Cheshire unless Grimsby are providing rent free accommodation....as the trek over to Grimsby is horrendous especially in winter.
We got it is claimed £60K for DA to move to Ross County which equates to £10 for the 6 months remaining of his contract with us....
One of the pluses I see with appointing Ged is his work with both youth and u23 players at Stanley whose fans sound to be very happy for Ged. Hopefully he can unearth some talent albeit with limited experience of life inEFL2 and the 'man's game'......
The only problem he or any new manager would have is the rebuilding of the squad in the close season so we can only hope that he has the contacts and that Greg will be staying to provide his welcomed input.

I would have liked Artell, but reading between the lines in his Grimsby interview perhaps it wouldn't have worked out as well as hoped. It seems like he's looking for a bigger set-up at a club that he can slip into (which Grimsby have under decent ownership), while at the moment with us it's probably more of a 'classic' manager role, which I think was probably why Derek did so well here as he seems suited to that.
Personally, if there were no other really standout names then I'd rather be having Ged over a name from the merry-go-round (a Gary Bowyer or a Simon Grayson etc). Hopefully can put the Wrexham game behind him on Tuesday!

I think I agree with that. Artell would have been my choice but if he turned us down then I’m not sure who else I’d have desperately wanted over Ged.
With Ged we have continuity, (hopefully) a focus on youth development and someone who actually wants to manage us.

Too early to judge our new manager but he must improve his touchline demeanour and become far more vocal in games. Last night he hardly gave any instructions of vocal support to the team and the only gesture he made was for the fans in the stadium to be more vocal in their support by raising both his arms as if pleading with the home fans.
Like any new manager learning his trade being manager is totally different than being a first team coach and at the moment he looks lost in the role but hopefully he will improve in time. As long as we esscape a relegation battle than that will do for me although I'd prefer us to be just above mid table.
GB's big test will be the close season when he has to put together yet another rebuild and let's hope he is up to the task with what monies are available especially as a few fans think that our BoDs have opted for the cheapest option.....or had they no choice with Jason pocketing the reported £60K
for DA although I was told rightly or wrongly that £30K of that was to pay for settlement on DAs flat in Kirkby Lonsdale
