Premier League clubs turn down funding to L1 & L2

Clubs in EFL1 and EFL2 will not be getting the money that would have filtered down the pyramid as the Premier League refuses to fund it.

The 10 clubs who voted no were:

Arsenal
Aston Villa
Bournemouth
Chelsea
Crystal Palace
Liverpool
Nottingham Forest
Tottenham
West Ham
Wolves

Disgraceful. The game's gone.

The game in this country went a long time ago

Very shocked that Bournemouth voted NO as it's not that long ago they were rock bottom and nearly out of business

How times have changed

Oh well greed is greed it will all come crashing down. Eventually some of the ten will be left behind (patsy’s). The real greedy ones will one day leave the Premiership one day for the European League

The players in League 1&2 will have to leave football or drastically reduce their wages and will probably end up semi-pro.

Without the money from the Premiership Clubs like Morecambe FC will probably not survive in their current model of operation's.

Those that have bought into the top clubs just don’t care about us, full blooming stop.

Good point that John and I'd forgotten they were only in L2 with us back in 2009 and we beat them 5-0 at Christie Park.

Hopefully what goes around comes around.

Just to play Devil's Advocate...

The Premier League is a business and as such will look after their own interests first and foremost. You wouldn't expect Asda to bail out your local corner shop, no they would watch it go under and take over the empty building. And I know football and supermarkets are very different things, although they are all businesses.

Yes the Premier League has got too big and is strangling football below them. However we the people are just as much to blame. Paying through the nose to watch them on the TV, buying the kits and god knows what else.

Why do people travel miles to watch a club like Liverpool or Man City, when they will have a club much more local to them? If everyone supported their local side everything would balance off and teams would level up accordingly.

So whilst yes the Premier League has a number of questions to answer so do the footballing fans of this country and around the world.

Interesting to see that 6 of the 7 Northern clubs did not vote 'no'.
Perhaps they appreciate the roots of the game, but probably some other reason.

As has been said, Bournemouth have surprised everyone with that vote, but then they are owned by more Yanks, who only want profit and return on their investment. Wrexham come in for lots of criticism but the Hollywood guys are not in it for money but the glory and kick of making something and affecting the town positively. Spending 20 million already it’s a good job!! :D

At least 6 of those teams in the end will be left behind, as a life long WHU fan, shameful greedy so & so’s. Idiots, they go on about the roots of the game, they have forgotten, kill the roots kill the roots of the tree and you will not bare fruits.

Looking at the track record of how other Government appointed Independent Regulators have performed, I wouldn't get over excited.

Two Tier Kier has had 35k worth of free tickets courtesy of the Premier League. Don't get your hopes up for a regulator any time soon, not whilst this chancer is in charge anyways.

And if you listen to the reasoning behind it, he's a season ticket holder in the stands with his son, but was warned of the cost of the security which we the taxpayer would have had to foot if he and his son had taken their usual seats, so he 'reluctantly' accepted the offer. I'd personally rather he accepted those freebies than add thousands to taxpayer costs once a fortnight.

Rather than put himself in the position of 'owing favours' to the Premier League he should have funded the upgrade from his own pocket if he wants to attend a match.

Totally agree. Other Prime Ministers have managed to sit amongst the unwashed without any hassle so why is this one any different? Accepting £35000+ worth of freebies from the PL whilst there is talk of a regulator being brought in might just be a conflict of interest. This labour mob seem to be selling themselves to the highest bidder or anybody that will chuck them a freebie. Scumbags.

....and this apology for a 'Government for the people' had real pop at Boris.....

Dreading the upcoming budget when we will see just how ruthless this shower can be.....Tax rises on the way.

PM's ratings have sunk to an all time low.....and that's even before they really get stuck in.

Give their mates in the powerful Unions what they wanted with no strings attached BUT deprive pensioners their heating allowance that could cause problems this winter with increased hospital admissions due to having to choose between eating or heating.....and that will only increase the pressures on a catastrophic
NHS.....

I'm no fan of Starmer, but come on! Why do you decry giving workers more, but support the last government, who gave billionaires tax cuts? The NHS hasn't gone from 'functioning fine' to "catastrophic" since July '24, it has been 15 years of cuts that have tried to destroy it. Privatisation began under Thatcher, who deliberately made it more bureaucratic, therefore expensive, in order to allow private companies in (if anyone really cares, read The Griffiths Report, from around 1984 ish. Loaned to Thatcher from Sainsbury's his report laid the foundations for privatisation).

Johnson was the thickest, most corrupt Prime Minister the country has ever had! If any of the Johnson supporters could please let me know why he made the 30 year old, Charlotte Owen a 'Life Peer'? What did she do to deserve such a well paid honour (he's since put her on the board of a company he's involved in too)?

A moment to put things into context:

If you saved £1 every second, you'd be a millionaire in just over eleven days.

If you saved £1 every second, you'd be a billionaire in 31 years and 8 months.

Yet somehow, it is the billionaires that need to be protected, and have tax cuts?

SHHHHHH!!!! You are not allowed to say that!!!!
:o :o :o    :o :o :o

In other, completely unsubstantiated rumours, it has been suggested that there is a 'Super Injunction' in place to stop any media references to this unfounded rumour, or even, that there may be a 'Super Injunction' in the first place.

It is all, obviously, complete nonsense to suggest that Johnson would have employed a woman with minimal experience of anything, as a 'Special Advisor', and then elevated her to the House of Lords, for the rest of her life, on the basis of her being one of his many undisclosed children... ...there must be a better reason than that... ...she got to the Lords because of her skills & experience, surely?
