As and out and out defender he's top class, where he lacks these days is in his ability to get forward to good effect. Strangely something that he excelled at in his first spell at the club before his £170,000 transfer to Crewe Alex. He should now be at or around his peak and you should get some very good service out of him over the coming seasons.
Simpson has made a major error of judgement here in my opinion. Mossy was a consistently high performer last season and was more deserving of a decent new contract offer than some. Instead he was offered a one year deal and a 40% pay cut, the lad has a family you can't blame him for looking elsewhere.
Our loss is very much your gain. Simpson has moved quickly to sign his replacement in Dean Holden, but in my view you have the superior player of the two.

Bloody excellent signing this one! In the actual paper Mossy is clearly upset at having to leave Shrewsbury and states that finances were his main reason for not staying at the Pro-Star. 'I'm devastated to be leaving Shrewsbury because I was really looking forward to another season there and after Christmas I thought I was one of the most consistent players last season but to be offered a 40% pay cut was really disappointing as when the gaffer gave me my chance I felt I took it'. I've got a family to think about so I've had no choice but to look elsewhere and move on'. Simpson is quoted as saying,' Darren was on a very good contract and I wanted him to stay and thats why I offered him a new contract on what we felt were reasonable terms. I'm disappointed Darren has left but we move on. Simpson didn't waste any time in filling the gap and has signed Dean Holden from Falkirk.
Welcome to Morecambe Mossy, not the biggest, not the best, but the friendliest by far! Onward and upward!
