Great news on the player front.

Great news on the player front.

In all the excitement/frustration/debate about possible new signings, this is (for me anyway) one piece of really good news, so long as there are no setbacks.

I think Stanners is right when he says he was playing as well as he ever has just before his injury.

And, if you think back, Drummy and Wainwright weren't really playing too well at that point.

I think both of those two finished the season much stronger so, if Stanners is back to his best and with Duffy, we hope, developing into a dangerous attacking midfielder as well, there should be a decent platform for any strikers to benefit from.

Good luck Stanners!

Great news about Stanners! I spoke to him just before the break and he said that he was spending as much time in the Gym over the summer as he could so he was A1 for the start of the season. Looks like it has paid off! Well done Craig and welcome back! We missed you.

for my money Stanners is one of the best if not the best midfielder in League 2.

could not agree more. He'll be like a new signing and I'm sure he'll be raring to go at the start of the season. I look forward to seeing him in a Morecambe shirt again delivering quality from set pieces and driving on through midfield.

Some have suggested in the past that Stanners and Drummy in the same team doesn't gell.

For me, I would prefer Drummy in a more deeper role spraying the ball out wide with Stanners pushing forward BUT alternating when the situation calls for a change in tactics.

With Wainwright and Duffers playing wide on both flanks..... what of Gaz?

Up front it's Taylor and Wayno to start for me; assuming that no new striker(s) come on board.

The important thing is that Sammy has options. If he has selection quandaries all the better. All the squad, whatever age, whatever reputation will start from scratch again, it's up to each and every one of the lads to force the manager to select them. Sammy will select his opening day side on merit and nothing else. I hope that a few of the lads who may have been overlooked by speculation this summer, step up to the plate and cause a few surprises.

Have to agree with CC on this one. I think those two together up front could cause many a defence a problem or two.
