We only took 284 to Bury on Saturday.

Barrow managed to take 409 to York whilst Kettering took over 300 to Cambridge.

Also, what has happened to the main bunch of singers that usually go to away games? I haven't seen them at Wycombe or Bury.

Given the way the team ended last season and started this season, it doesn't surprise me that people won't stump up the money to go to watch away games. Barrow are on the crest of a wave, having made a really good start to life in the Blue Square Premier. Also, if they ever did get promoted to League 2, I'd be surprised if their home attendances didn't beat ours by 1,000 or more. My family are season ticket holders at MFC, but haven't been to an away league game for ages. They simply couldn't afford the £60 or more.

You beat me to it..... Barrow are on a roll after promotion. They got 2800 at home to Oxford and as you say 400 out of 2600 at York. they also took 450 to Altrincham but it would seem that the Club bosses are not impressed with their behaviour! (2 fans have been banned)

As to the singers I think they are still on their way back from Nottingham

If you people want an atmosphere then create it yourself, or leave off the people who do sing

Thats true all that instead of us lot singing on sataday all you who complain come and join us at the top and start songs off for us and we may join in!

BTW the next time the singers will be away will be at Port Vale.

I suppose it's to be expected. We aren't winning like we were last year so people will pick and choose their games.

I'm just surprised how quickly alot of people seem to have got bored of League football.

Its not just the football.

Im just a bit lost with the whole thing at the moment, and so are many of the away 'singers'.
The last two years in the conference were superb travelling with the Indies. I used to look forward all week to the Saturday away day. Travelling the country, drinking in different pubs, meeting other teams fans having the craic, going to the game, making noise, alot of the times the best days had come after defeats!!! Football didnt ruin the day.
Mick was running the coach and we were regualarly taking 30-52 on a coach every away day.

But now its all changed for some reason, the police dont want you in town centres, the police always wanting to know where you are, the police telling you where you have to drink, get to the game you cant stand up, you cant wind up the home fans, you cant swear, you cant breath, after the game your ushered back to your coaches. Then you come on here and everyone moans like fook, 9 times out of 10 its something or nothing.

I can name 15 lads right now who used to go every away game 2 seasons ago who dont go now for similar reasons.

That's one of the prices to pay for having a team playing league football I'm afraid.

They are Morecambe fans for years long b4 the football league tag alongs, who worked hard all week who made a day out of long trips, making many friends with away fans without any trouble.

That is the type of degrading reply ive come to expect on here and a prime example of why people dont bother. Calling lads who have have followed Morecambe long before the glory years and who like the day out, ''Not real drunk Morecambe fans''

Exeter took 604 to Darlington, and then 1,239 to Bournemouth.

Bit of an unfair comparison IMO, Barrows following at York and ours at Bury. Aside from the each teams current fortunes on the field at the moment, rightly or wrongly people pick and chose their away days and York was always a popular destination for hardy Morecambe followers with many making a weekend out of it. Bury just doesn't have the same pull for me as York did, but in truth you won't find to many that do. I always liked to go to Burton Albion, again another place we always seemed to take a strong following.

Whilst the away support at Bury was a little disappointing I believe there are understandable reasons for it, most of them not football ones. I think many of the lads who used to go to away games are mainly of a certain age whereby they begin to take on more responsibilities. One of my mates has just had a kid for example, so at the moment he can't really afford the expense or more importantly the time to travel away at this current moment in time. What is noticeable is that the important role that these lads have implemented into the away support over the last 5-10 seasons isn't being matched by the younger crop in noise or in number. Perhaps you should take up the mantle Red Knight? I'm not familiar with your alias on here or within the support group, but you certainly seem to have a lot to say on here.

Morecambe have never had a massive history of being a well supported team on the road, but, in the non-league days we always took a good noisy following and whatever the anti drink merchants say - drink (in moderation) does lubricate the tonsils and helps you to sing your hearts out for the lads.

Unfortunately in this day and age kids over 14 think they have a devine right to drink when they are away from the prying eyes of their parents. They drink stuff they cant handle then think its cool to give the opposition grief on their territory. I pointed out to such a group at Wolves last season that if they carried on goading the home fans they would be sorted out by the big boys after the game without any intervention from the likes of myself. I was prompted to inform the police to come and show some presence after the game which they did. (Said dickheads were crapping it). The majority of Morecambe fans that night were top notch and shouted the team onto victory.

As for organising away travel, Mick is correct - why cant any other individuals organise travel. Mick and me looked at the fixtures in JUNE for God's sake and couldnt raise any interest from an apathetic travel crew, then as soon as it got near the Wycombe game it was all, "We want to go - can you organise a mini bus etc etc".

Of course everyone wanted to go to Forest but again there were people turning up on the day hoping to get on a full bus - the supporters bus was deemed too expensive for some!

We have now looked at the fixtures where we know we can fill the busses and have booked in advance with Staintons accordingly - maybe some of the fans could show a little more commitment and book early with us - come on lads its not rocket science. Or is the attention span of a young individual today so short??????

MTID's comments are very true - supporting a team in the league demands you look through a rule book that does not take into account the vital component of an away day - enjoyment. I remember certain posters on here moaning and spouting ground regs etc regarding standing up. Oh dear - we didnt see any stewards demanding those nice Geordie chaps sat down at Coventry last night - let's see if Sunderland fans sit quietly at Forest tonight! Are those same people going to write to the football league and demand the Newcastle fans be charged with something???? (I now sit down because my legs have gone )

The last component of enjoying the away day is watching the team play some attractive attacking football - sadly that has been put on hold for a while meethinks but I dont want to dwell on the playing side of life, MFC employ a manager to do that!

In essence we are having to grow up very fast in the league, I'm sort of on the front line at the York and see massive groups of away fans coming through the door really getting behind their teams early on (I also see groups of tosse*s on the odd occasion) - at times our away support is what it always was - non-league. It will take time but hopefully our young lads will grow up and become a very noisy but behaved set of travellers who may one day be suppoting MFC in a higher league, not just in the lower echelons like some of us old crustys have been for too many years.

What utter nonsense. Fair to say for a few that the novelty has worn off but that doesn't make them 'bored'.

There are a lot of well made points in this thread about why some people travel less including the oppressive nature of some policing and stewarding; the increased cost of travel and match tickets; our lack of a history of big travelling support; transport arrangements; and the state of the economy and the knock on effect on personal finances. None of the above has anything to do with boredom.

I'm another who used to go to virtually every way game in the Conference but then at the start of last season my first child was born and I only went to about six away games. This season I'll probably be as choosy.

we don't have a big fan base compared with other teams but if results start picking up I think a few more people might travel still wondering if I should go to Barnet or not depends if I can afford it

Have to say that in a previous post of mine about the expected gate for Daggers, some of the same applies to our away following. ie lack of money; not a footballing town.

Lets not forget that our country is practically in a recession. I would love to travel to every away game but I can't simply afford to. Forest cost me more than a days wages. I think we will see attendances drop across the leagues this season, especially in poorer working-class areas.

sometimes people just simply cant get to every away game but would love to

i mean i go to most games i can, and i loved the bury game last year (apart from the end of the game when i got "told off" for encouraging our players rarther than hurtling abuse at them ) as i had a great banter with one of my mates whos a bury fan

but this year a birthday got in the way, so i went to that... sorry for any inconvinence caused hahaa
