My route home to Heysham from my office in Preston EVERY night.

As Brian says, further round, but at least it keeps you moving and avoiding gridlock.

I do the route in reverse too in the morning from Heysham to Preston.

It's the temporary Lancaster bypass

Even easier would be just to come off at J34, turn left and over Deny Beck , through Halton and down Hasty Brow , piece of cake . ;)

Only in a car, anything bigger won't get over the bridge due to the width restriction.

Correct , but even going round by Caton only takes 15 mins to Scale Hall. ;)

Another Southend fan in peace here...

Really looking forward to my first visit to Morecambe tomorrow - I hope the 550 mile round trip is worth it!

I've been really impressed by the way your club has conducted itself in the build-up to the game, and in return I hope my fellow Southend fans accord your club the respect you deserve in our conduct whilst in your town and particularly in the ground.

Stewart Drummond clearly deserves a decent send off for his last competitive game, I'm sure our fans will acknowledge that too - it's an interesting coincidence that Phil Brown was the Preston manager when they came over for his testimonial a few years ago.

Anyway, onto more mundane matters - I'm trying to plan the best route to drive to the ground. Everyone seems united about avoiding the route through Lancaster, so that's a given.

The alternatives seem to be:

1. Junction 35, and down the A6 via Carnforth
2. Junction 35, and via Nether Kellet
3. Junction 34 and via Halton (either via the very narrow looking Denny Beck Lane, or the crossing further upstream, Low Road)

A bit of local knowledge would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

I'd go for option 1 mate EVERY time. AVOID Lancaster at ALL costs. Seriously.

Denny Beck Bridge is ok, drive a wide/big car, and you're scuppered.

Coming off at 35 is by far and away the easiest. Head through Carnforth and Bolton-Le-Sands.
Turn right at the lights in B-L-S and that leads you straight onto the prom.

Have a safe journey.

Agree with Seasider on the route, but when you come off the motorway, turn right, then go to the T-junction and turn right again, down into Carnforth (but watch for the speed cameras on the way down). The other route left and left again could easily bring you to the tail end of a long queue (which I'll be in unless, as usual, we set off early)

Judging from what has been said elsewhere, I believe it's about 2,400.

As you might imagine plans are at an advanced stage and we are looking forward to welcoming in excess of 2400 fans, officials, staff and players to our Club, for what we hope will be a fantastic celebration of football.

If you come off at 35 then you need to go through Nether Kellet to be on the safe side as Carnforth can be as bad as Lancaster some days (ask Mark who goes that way a few times a month  ).
