Bookies, odds & advice?

Bookies, odds & advice?

Postby Keith » Sat Jun 06, 2015 1:07 pm

Okay, I'm not a betting man but I'm rather tempted to have a flutter on us for next season. Where do I find the best odds? Never having used an on-line bookmaker, how do I take most advantage of these 'free bets' that they offer to new customers?

In particular, I fancy the chances of those 'handicap' bets, where do I find odds for those?

With the latest couple of signings, I genuinely expect this squad to make it in to the top seven! Can't wait for next season! :D :D :D

Most of the online bookies will offer you a free bet as long as you subscribe/sign up and give them your debit card details with a deposit. the choice is yours, but Skybet helps MFC if you sign up as a fan and BET 365 is good.

.... they also give you special offers like tonight...
Make a bet of up to £50, then they give you a free in play bet to the same value.

ie £50 @ 1/3 for Barcelona to lift the trophy, then stick £50 of their money on to Juventus @ 11/4

Win/win :D ..
even if it's only £17

The free bets are a con aren't they marky? Normally you have to turn the winning over about 10 times before you can withdraw the money. It makes you continue betting and the company have made money by taking your original bet, they can't lose.

The free money they "give" you in the first place does need to be turned over so many times I recall, but once you have been with them the free in play bet offers they (BET365) give you are instant - they have already paid me out on my winning bet and refunded me the money on "their" losing bet.

So as I say that was a win/win last night although I would have preferred Juventus to win and cashed in by considerably more.

You can spend forever on Bet In Play, hence the cockney man on the TV who never stops telling us. They obviously make money from it as you can literally bet on anything that happens while the game is on - apart from OG's

There aren't may bookies offering odds at the moment apart from SkyBet, especailly in the specials markets.

When more odds start appearing its well woth checking out the betting onwww.oddschecker.com. This will show the spread of the market; who has the best odds and what special offers - these are usually a joining bonus - are available for each bookmaker. Bet365 will match your initial deposit up to £200, but you've got to stake 6 times the value of your deposit in order to withdraw it - I did this is a weekend by placing related contingency bets between the different bookmakers using their free bets, i.e. looked for a positive or slighlty negative market and backed all outcomes to ideally breakeven, or incurr a small loss so that my stakes would eventually reach a level for me to withdraw the joining bonus - risk free.

Might put my birthday money on Morecambe to finish top half @ 7/4 with SkyBet... this is generous given we finished top half this season and have improved our squad. A top 7 finish is 6/1 with BetVitctor.

Bet365 still have us 100/1 to win the league, E/W 1/4 of the odds for a top 3 finish - meaning for a £1 e.w. single bet (£2) you'd get £127 back if we won the league, or £26 if we finished second or third.

Thought I better do that bet before we sign Scott and that new striker and the odds come tumbling down . Couple of grand if it all comes off , so that's us fcked now .

BET 365 have just sent me another £5 bonus into my account, which they do from time to time.. I get it when I have put bets on to the value of £15.. there is no time limit and you can spend it on what you like

i look at that as being a free fiver because I will be putting bets on regardless.. others will say they are giving you a discount and prompting you to bet..

They have now given us 10/1 for a top 7 finish, which I might put the free fiver on :D

We are 18/1 to win our first 3 League games and 20/1 to lose them!

Accy are 7/1 favourites to finish bottom

Handicap betting now up too.

We are 18/1 with Bet365 to win the league with a +26 handicap... i.e. if you add 26 points to our final points tally, and that would place us in 1st place, it pays out (at least that is my understanding).

By my calculations, we would have been paid out 3 times in the last 8 seasons based on that handicap and the average points total needed averages 63 in that period - but this ranges considerably from 57 to 68.

Hi Keith, I think you might have misunderstood the handicap bet. It is not simply a case of adding 26 to Morecambe's final points total. There are all of the other teams to consider too.
Each team in the league is involved in the handicap so Morecambe off a handicap of +26 need to beat everybody else taking into account their handicap too.
For example (there are 24 teams in the league but I will take 4 to explain the handicaps). Lets say that Portsmouth (who's handicap is scratch, i.e. they start off (0) win the league with 86 points, Stevenage (+14) finish fourth with 76, Newport (+24) finish eighth with 64 points lets say that Morecambe (+26) finish ninth with 61 points.
In this handicap Morecambe have finished within 26 points of Portsmouth but they have still not won the handicap as Stevenage had a 14 point start on Portsmouth and they have finished just 10 points behind. Morecambe had a 12 point start on Stevenage but they have finished 15 points behind Stevenage. Morecambe also had a 2 point start on Newport but they have finished 3 points behind them.
The handicap does not simply take into account Morecambe's points total and the points total of the team who wins the league, but all 24 teams are involved in the handicap, so it requires plenty of calculation. A good bet to have though at decent odds for an interest through the season.

Yes, quite right, there are some other interesting handicaps, including Newport. I suppose the way to win the handicap betting is to identify a team that over-performs more than any other, like Burton last season? But I still think we will be one of the 'over achievers' this season. I'm thinking a bet on 'to win' and an 'each way' to cover?

Trying to think beyond that is making my head hurt!

I agree. I think BetVictor's offer of 5/2 for Morecambe to finish in the top half of the table is massive. 9 months is a long time to wait for a 5/2 shot and need to have enough on to make the wait worthwhile.

The programme last night showed the bookie families who had been at dog races for generations and how the internet means that the dog tracks are disappearing and their livelihoods will be gone. People can now bet on anything 24 hours a day.

There was a guy who has lost £400K over the years and a guy in the betting shop that says it is part of his life and can't live without it. He's not happy that youngsters can now come in the modern shops, who aren't interested in horses, and spend all day playing the machines.

One lad had got £2200 running on the spin of a roulette wheel - when he lost, the cashier referred to responsible gambling and removed him after he kicked s@!t out of the machine- next day he thanked her!

Jim Bentley has fostered a culture of commitment and hard work at Morecambe, and that in itself is often enough to avert relegation fears in League Two. Replacing their only consistent goalscorer, Jack Redshaw, may prove tricky, so the chance of any progression will depend on the contributions of the new attack-minded midfielders, such as Aaron Wildig and Peter Murphy. 15th

I have put £20 on us to win League 2 with William Hill

They gave 100-1, Corbetts only offered 66 and Ladbrokes couldn't give me their odds

Fingers crossed we make a good start!
