Other than 'possibly' the addition of Scott I totally agree with Freez's assessment of the squad at the moment.

However if may well be that pre season uncovers another triallist striker as was the case with Mullers last season. In pre season games he was excellent and quite rightly earned himself a 3 year contract. For me Mullers has the potential to become our main threat in the coming season(s) as he showed in glimpses in his first season as FL player. This coming season he has to establish himself and justify the faith placed in him by our management team.

The squad is looking in good shape; great going considering it's still basically mid June.

I think a young left back to cover/challenge for Wilsons position and a powerful striker would be my only additions. But if we went into the season only with what we now have, I'd probably be quite happy.

Depends whether we lose Redshaw and/or Edwards.

Let's hope Jim can snare a robust striker before the season starts, any injury to Redshaw or Mullin leaves us without a dedicated frontman. Arguably Redshaw is only half a target man so there is a space to fill with the release of Sampson and Amond

I expect a blank space tomorrow night on the player shirt sponsors board saying un named striker No. 9

Presume a Captain may be announced as well

Billy Kee is currently a free agent, plenty of experience at this level and still only 24!

Could do a job for us but will Mansfield already have a deal for him?

Yes, it sounds like he wants to be there. Their manager has had him on a strict diet to get him to proper fitness again. Apparently the players get fined for being over a given weight

Insider info.... :?: :?: :?:

I hope you are right because we are very light up front with proven strikers. I'd even accept a youngster currently in non league to be given the opportunity to become a FL player but would prefer a proven striker to replace Padraig who (for me) deserved another 12 months but sadly looks as though he's returned home to Ireland.

As for the punishment for being overweight on returning to pre season training, I understand that we along with other clubs do this now as a matter of routine. I recall Jimmy Harvey starting this and in its first season the 'pot' was overflowing....

Could have done a more than adequate job for us. Slowly Accy are putting together quite a good squad particularly going forward. We certainly need some more fire power for my liking but let's see if pre season brings any news.... :?: :?: :?:

No use having excellent options in midfield if we don't have sufficient options up front.

Surely Jimbobinho has a treasure lined up in the goal scoring department. He wouldn't put together a tasty defence and strong midfield without a proven striker (no dis to Redshaw) to finish things off.

Maybe somebody who can head a goal. Haven't had one of them for some time :)

Most players are contracted until July 1st. It may be that the next movements will only take place once players are free agents?

So there were no un named blank spaces for players at all....
With PMG saying we have probably assembled our best squad ever I conclude that we are done, so for me Kev and Barky are strikers, not wingers.
General feeling is we can get a loan keeper if Baz gets a match ban..

29 degrees on Wednesday, 40 in Spain :o

Fine by me so long as we don't lose Jack Redshaw which, if we are done, I assume is not foreseen to be likely. :)

Fron Wiki so not necessarily accurate:
In May 2009 he (Tom B)signed on as a first-year scholar with Blackpool's youth department. Before that he had been at the Centre of Excellence for four months, and had scored in every game he played at both under-16 and under-17 levels.[5]

On 24 August 2010, whilst still a second-year youth scholar, he made his first team debut in the second round of the 2010–11 League Cup, against Milton Keynes at Stadium MK.[6] Assistant manager Steve Thompson said of Barkhuizen: "Tom has come through the youth set up and I felt he handled himself very well for his debut. He is not the finished article by a long shot but once he gets a little bit of strength I think we've got a decent player there. I thought he did fantastic.

Nearly 5 years on if he has the strength and retained his eye for goal we could have the 20 a season striker we have been missing.

In Jimbo we trust............

I still see Barkhuizen & Ellison primarily as wingers.

Think we'll either be playing a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 this season. In both instances it will requite two wide men (Molyneux, Barkhuizen, Ellison, Devitt) and just one striker (Redshaw, Mullin). In case of emergency we could play Ellison or Barkhuizen up front but I think they won't be competing against Redsahw & Mullin for a starting spot in those positions.

Don't rule out 5 at the back either.. I just hope we play to our strengths and dont overly worry about the opposition

Seems to me that Jim has outed all the 'nicer' players and opted for aggressive lads who can understand Scouse. IMO the team will be much more attack minded with little time to be worried by the opposition

An experienced striker on a season long loan would be icing on the cake

Come on Mr Bentley you know you can do it!

I think we are a big lad up front short of a good little squad, but then again most clubs in league 2 are probably saying the same.

I think we will probably sign a keeper on a 6month loan also nearer the time, they are probably lined up but being kept involved in their parent clubs pre-season first.

looking like 4-3-3 to me next season, seems to be Jim's favourite if possible.
