Possibly very little if we take a loanee from a Championship or Premier League club as it would involve possible a 3rd choice keeper or a development player. We would be helping the loan club with a players development and guaranteeing him regular football. Something that few of the bigger clubs can do due to the size of their squads. For instance the lad from Liverpool was not getting much match time last season prior to joining us on loan.

I understand that the loanees club usually fund any loan especially when it's a Championship or Premier League club involved.

However let's hope that it doesn't come to that.

Izak Reid has cancelled his contract at Barrow. He didn't want to turn full time as he's started an apprenticeship to be an electrician.

And has signed part time nearer home with AFC Telford United

Embarrassing on our part as we let a very capable League 2 standard striker leave, shortly followed by our best striker and are left with a youngster and an OAP (sorry Kev).

I liked Amond (sponsored him last season), I liked his effort and his commitment, but ultimately he didn't score enough goals. Take away his penalties and it was four(?) from open play last season, which isn't a great return.

Jimbo let Podge go because he thought there were better options out there. He probably did this knowing that there would be interest in Jack. Time to move on and back the managers decision.

While I agree almost entirely with RRW it is tempered by the fact that Podge was very often played out right in a front three. It didn't work for him as he's an out and out goal poacher, as a result he looked lost and gave little when played in that role. Additionally, when we were behind, we would play as many as four strikers in a desperate hunt for a goal. With hardly a midfield left chances were few, he was played as out and out winger and his chances were even more minimal. Lastly he rarely played with a target man. It was noticeable that he got goals when he was played down the middle when Sampson or Ellison were on the pitch, such as Chesterfield.

If Grimsby play him as an out and out striker with someone decent to knock balls down to him he'll get s decent return. However as RRW says his his return wasn't good enough for the system Jim employs and than that's why he had to go.

Totally agree with bb and RRW.Time to move on. Podge was good but didn't score enough, Jack we love him but he's now gone. Let's back Jim and see what occurs over the next few weeks. Let's not forget that he has signed some cracking players

We've basically got rid of 2 strikers in Amond & Sampson and replaced them with 2 wingers in Barkhuizen & Molyneux which will much better suit what we're trying to do with a 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 formation.

In my opinion it was a big mistake in letting Podge go and particularly in view of recent departures.

Can never understand why throughout football managers often play players out of their natural position.

As has been said Podge was a poacher and I'm sure Grimsby will use him in that role and to great effect.

We've basically got rid of 2 strikers in Amond & Sampson and replaced them with 2 wingers in Barkhuizen & Molyneux which will much better suit what we're trying to do with a 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 formation.

Yes, but where will Kev & Devitt fit into that? Also we played our best football imo when Beeley and Wilson were taking turn to run up the wings.
